This week I was diagnosed with a Thyroid problem. That would explain the utter frustration with trying to lose weight for the past 4 years. I am so frustrated.

I've known people with thyroid problems. It's ok you can beat this. A dear friend is new to the meds and has seen weight loss and energy increases. Don't give up.

Can wait for the meds to take effect. I was told about 4 weeks but am really dragging and having a hard time staying awake. I also have sleep aapnea so thought I was just having a bad episode of that. I think I might have had thyroid issues for a number of years. Thanks for the encouragement. I will not give up.

I got to a point where I was just over 200 pounds at the end of 2010. I felt so disgusted with myself, how I looked in the mirror, and I resolved to lose weight. I did Adkins high-protein dieting and trying to reduce portions/calories which resulted in losing a total of 10 pounds from 2010 to December of 2012. In the fall of 2012, my local TV provider replaced the Ellen Degeneres show with Katie Couric in the same time slot. This upset me because Ellen provided me with some laughter and "feel good" times and I vowed not to watch the Oprah/Ellen timeslot "replacement"...so I turned to the Dr. Oz show which was in the fated "Katie's" timeslot on another network and it immediately began to foster a fire within me. It was one of his shows I viewed that contained Dr. Joel Fuhrman and his "Eat to Live" diet book. I went to my Kindle and downloaded it. Unfortunately, it was quite some time before I had time to attend to the book. In February of this year, we took two weeks to car travel from Indiana southwest toward Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and up to Colorado to visit very good old friends. With so much time on the road, we found out how to hook the Kindle up to the car stereo speakers and have it read to us as we drove/rode! My husband and I heard the entire book on that trip and agreed that this was something we should do! As soon as we returned home, we decided to start the "Eat to Live" program beginning the following Monday. That began on 3/4/13 and we were "on-track" until we rented a place in the Smokey Mountains for a week...let's just say we tried to remain strict but a night of grilled chicken breasts and one morning of spinach and cheese omelets was definitely not on the 6-week plan. We returned home and immediately went back into the "strict" mode. Just to let you know, to date, since we started the diet, I have lost 11 pounds, and my husband has lost 15. My Grandmother and Mother both had the same thyroid condition that you have. They were able to eventually gain medication control. At one point, my Grandmother was over 300 pounds and required insulin because of diabetes in addition to her thyroid problem. My Mother still remains on medication at age 83 and she has no thyroid issues. I would like for you to remain steadfast on the Eat to Live program as I think it will work for you beneficially once you are able to get the metabolic issues with the thyroid problem under control. Don't give up...the diet works! And it does take you from "live to eat" to "Eat to live"! Stay on the healthy track as it will serve you best! Keep to the 6-week strict plan now until your medications get arranged where you are stable as that may be your best benefit! After that point...the 90/10 arrangement will also work for you! Hang in there! It does work...just keep giving it a chance! I continue to ask my primary care physician to do a thyroid panel for me! I have been normal for more than 26 years since I began to ask! I never know when it will switch from normal to abnormal! I have much more energy since eating the diet because I eat much better than I ever used to. It was tough to get rid of the Adkins feeling...but I have adopted very well! I eat mostly Vegan until after 6 PM (this triggers "Vegan Before 6"--(Mark Bittman from Dr.Oz)!
