Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 11 February 2013

I've been reading a ton of diet advice, coping with stress, ridding yourself of the habit of eating your emotions, etc. One of the solutions is to find a different coping mechanism. The first coping mechanism I found was wine. Over the weekend it was vodka in a diet pepsi because we had guests that act nice but I know are thinking OMG I can't stand that woman! I know this because they have told people. I'm not just paranoid. But still.. slipping a shot of vodka into my can of diet made me feel like a liiiiiiiitttle bit of a lush. Especially when I started giggling uncontrollably in the middle of milking when hubby caught on that I may or may not have had a little buzz. I think the attempted line dancing to the song Fuzzy gave me away.

Today.. I found the ultimate stress coping mechanism! What is the most logical thing for a dairy farmers wife to do?? Shop! I bought two piglets. I'm going to go pick up the piglets this weekend. At least hubby can't yell because I brought home another pair of shoes. I just have to remember not to mention this latest purchase to my boss. The last time we bought pigs she wanted pictures, then she wanted to know their names (pork chop and bacon), then.. 6 months later.. she wanted to know how the pigs were doing. Ahem....

I also forgot to mention my cow is pregnant again! I have one cow and two babies. I got into the spirit of an auction when hubby and I first moved in together and I bought Mookie. Since then she has had two baby girls Moochkins and Moopsy. In 6 months I could have a herd of 4! If you want to see a really funny reaction tell a man who milks cows for a living and has a herd of 100 that you have a herd of 4. Make sure you smile really big and do the happy clap dance when you do it. I think it adds to the whole moment and gets a bigger reaction. :)

Oh my gosh, that is to funny. Hope you and the herd of 4 don't do the diet pop trick to often. Think I'd be kicking the couple to the curb, could do it after the diet soda of coarse. Would do a whole lot for my stress level.

Too funny! Love your coping mechanisms. THe cows are an income tax write off correct?!! and so are the piglets!! Just be careful when you're doing the milking and don't bang up your hand anymore!

I bought a colt at an auction once - named him 'Impulsive Bidding'. He was so tiny I considered putting him in the trunk of the car to take him home - seemed silly taking the whole big truck & trailer back after him. Wanna get even w/people you don't like? Tequila & coffee. Makes you a total wide awake drunk :-) I'm just sayin'.... Happy Dance!

Well 4 is a herd isn't it? Like Erika I do have trouble eating things that have names. Wish I wasn't such a hypocrite because I know where meat comes from.

Buffy - I totally agree - I like to play the "don't ask, don't tell" game and pretend like the cute little piglets that I see are not the same pigs that get butchered for delicious meat.. :) (same goes for all the rest.. )

Too funny! lol I would love to have some pigs and cows... my DH and I are only getting started out with raising farm animals but that is our dream. Right now we only have chickens.. haven't gotten to the point yet where we'll be eating them, but we want to raise some to have for meat. I love your animal names, so cute and naming them food names helps to keep it in perspective... food not pet!!
