ElizabethEl's Journal, 10 February 2013

Bummer weigh in. Have to figure out what the heck is going on. Retaining fluid, and not voiding figure in for the last few days but, geez. Nighttime leg cramps - researched and found on Dr. Eades site the need for more sodium (but already retaining fluid?) and magnesium and potassium. And more water. Trying not to be too discouraged and will keep on....

Hi ElizabethEl. I used to have a terrible time with nighttime leg cramps, too. Magnesium seemed to be the key for me. Just recently I have started having some again. I had forgotten about the potassium so I think I will try adding in a bit of that, too. I hope you find the key to relief from them. We all need good quality sleep and leg cramps mess that up.

Hate that you are having a bad day. This may not apply to you, but FYI - I am allergic to nitrates (found in most sausage, ham, bacon, etc.) and the symptoms are the same as you are having. You could try only eating fresh meat for a few days to see if that helps. Good luck.

Thanks, Buffy, will try that. Also going to cut back on the Splenda.

Hope your finding relief. I had them as well a few years ago and like Lyn it was Magnesium I needed. My Mom use to get them and with her it was calcium. Might have to try a couple things to see which it is your lacking.

IF you are not voiding that's not good, maybe a check with your doc to see if you have a urinary tract infection. Are you also drinking lots of water? Potassium is often a cause. If you add calcium make sure you are taking magnesium ( add 50mg per day as it can cause diatthea) and vitamin D both help in calcium absorbtion and take with a meal or snack.
