Frizzkitty's Journal, 05 February 2013

I'm a bit of an oddball as far as eating healthy and dieting and whatnot is concerned. After getting a new doctor for other health issues, we got down to talking about my weight.

At the time of my appointment, I weighed 235 lbs, and was consisting day to day on approximately 500-600 calories. I didn't want to eat. I wasn't hungry. When I was going to college on grants and loans, I taught myself not to eat anything during the day, because food on campus was too expensive. I kept putting on more and more weight, even though I was barely eating anything. Don't let anyone ever try to convince you that you can "starve yourself thin". My body went into starvation mode, and I would have crashes where I was shaky until I ate something. And even then I ate barely enough to feel better. Between my ingrained habits and feeling that I was fat, I just got stuck.

So, flash forward to the doctor's appointment, where I explained all of that. For a little while she didn't believe me, which no one ever does. If you don't eat, why aren't you skin and bones? Well, when we got going through the rest of my issues, some things became clear, and she suggested to me that I go on Medifast. It's expensive, but it has me eating more food than I have since I was a teenager. Making myself eat never worked before - but now I have no excuse, because the food is right there, nutritionally balanced, and I have my boyfriend and my two best friends nagging me. I'm even drinking enough water. Most days.

In the past I have hidden the fact that I was on a diet. I didn't want people to know. Mostly because no one believes that a fat girl like me could possibly not be eating enough. Now, I'm supposed to be eating, and everyone's happy to help me get to where I need to be. And my doctor is happy, because I'm following guidelines that will help me get better - and stay better.

I believe you when you say that you weren't eating enough. It is very true that your body goes into starvation mode/simply saying that it want to grab ahold of whatever it gets to save itself. I have been wondering about medifast myself, but hate to think of the expense!! It sounds like a great way for a jump start.....hmmmmm....what to do.
