can you guess which team I am rooting for? Hehehe...we are in the midst of cooking lots of low carb goodies for us to eat while we watch the commercials! lol Artichoke and crab stuffed mushrooms, chicken wings, cream cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped anaheim peppers cooked on the grill, and taco meat for our salad with sour cream, shredded cheese, and diced tomato. Oh, and we are here all by ourselves and enjoying every second of it!

So, it's been a bit hectic. We went to mom's on Wednesday, our regular visit, and played Rummy. When she took her evening meds, she let me know it was time to fill the monthly pill minder again, so I told her since she had an appointment for a mammogram on Thursday I would do it then. When I filled it last month, she needed a new prescription for her seizure medicine. When we got it, the doctor had called in the wrong instructions, and they had her taking 1 tab 2 times a day, rather than 3 tabs twice a day, so we had to go back the following week and pick up the other 2 months worth (they give her a 3 month supply). So when we got back from the mammogram and I sat down to fill this month's supply, I noticed that the pills that they had given us for January weren't the same as the ones they completed the prescription with for February and March. So I called the pharmacy and gave them the inscription number on the pills, and it turns out that they gave her 150 mg pills instead of 100, and she had been taking 450 mg twice a day instead of the prescribed 300. The bottle was marked as 100 mg pills, but they filled it 150's. I called the doctor's office and he ordered blood work, then I had to go to the pharmacy and take them the bottle and the few pills that remained, and the drug receipt and information from the prescription. In the process of talking to the doctor and pharmacy, mom asked me if that was what could be causing her rash, and then pulled her sleeves up and showed me her arms. I called the doctor back and was told that she needed to be seen in the morning as soon as her blood work was done. The blood work was scheduled for first thing Friday morning, the doctor appointment for 9:40, and then I had to stop by the pharmacy to file a formal complaint and incident report. The doctor put her a prednisone regimen, topicort cream, and antihistimine. I got home about 2 in the afternoon.

Saturday (yesterday) we went back to mom's and played Rummy and Yahtzee. We left at about 8:45, and were almost home when it started flurrying. By the time we got home the roads were getting covered and a little slippery. We got 4.5 inches of snow in a little over 2 hours, and guess what...they weren't predicting any! lol This morning, they cancelled the first church service, as the roads were ice packed and very treacherous, so we didn't leave for church until 9:30 rather than 8:00 am and didn't get home until well after 1. We had some lunch, took about a 2 hour nap, and are now (as I said above) cooking and watching Super Bowl.

Anyway, that is what I have been doing. We have to watch mom's rash very carefully as the medicine she takes has been known to cause necrosis when you develop the rash. Her blood pressure was also elevated, so we are keeping a close eye on that as well.

Food has been good, exercise has been running here, there, and everywhere! lol

That's about all the news that's fit to print from my corner...hope all is well in your's!

WOW - that pharmacy issue is rough - people make mistakes, and I always check everything before I take anything. Your mom is so lucky to have you caring for her!

HCB, I always do too. The problem with this is the only difference between the dosages is the imprint number, and if you don't have one of each to compare, you have no way of knowing. That was the scary thing...if they had been able to give me the whole prescription, she would have been taking that dose for 3 months, and the outcome could have been so much worse! And since it is her seizure meds, we have to really watch that there are no adverse effects.

Wow. Great Super Bowl food. No Super Bowl for me. We were going to go but DH cancelled it. Long story.

Buffy, it is really terrible, as she needs it to control the seizures, but too much can be deadly. I am glad that they made the original mistake, or she would have had 3 months of the wrong dose, rather than just 1. Have a great day!

Bren, this was a REALLY big mistake. Just the rash could be fatal, so we are watching very closely. I enjoyed the game, even though I'm not a big FB fan...my sport is BASEBALL!!! Can't wait! Have a great day, Bren...hugs! Love ya!

I'm glad you were able to catch your mom's meds. I don't even want to think about what could have happened. Even though I live in Cali I was routing for the Ravens. So I am happy they won also. Have a great Monday!

Dar, me too! This was not just some little thing. The side effects for overdose are chilling!
04 Feb 13 by member: ctlss
sk, I don't want to think about it either. I am just glad that I saw that the imprint number on one was 122 and 123 on the other. I was glad the Ravens won as well. The best part though was the Clydesdale commercial! Have a great evening!
