Djburney's Journal, 31 January 2013

I can't wait to get home and back to my routine. I really haven't eaten too badly on this trip to Seattle, but the scale says otherwise. I've had no alcohol, kept my calories pretty low, but carbs have been higher than I would eat at home, mostly due to the tomato soup they served us at lunch twice. It was evil, but delicious. Again, I skipped bread, rice, muffins, fruit, some kind of Mardi Gras cake with a baby in it (our Louisiana rep brought it), and wine. What do I have to do, only eat a piece of lettuce? I guess I did have a pretty big piece of meat last night, but it OMG good.

I had dinner last night with the executives of our company (CEO, CAO, VPs), and had a lot of fun. I had a little anxiety about the new CEO, but it turns out he just asks hard questions (why are there no sales in Arizona and how are you going to change that?) to save the company so we can keep doing what we do. That is a good thing. I have a lot of work ahead of me!

Going home this afternoon, can't wait to see Mr. A.

Sounds like a great work event; and I bet you had way more sodium than usual since restaurant foods are packed with it - even the "healthy" stuff. You will re-group when you are home. And, great job avoiding the alcohol calories. Good for you!

its not mardi gras yet, right?! February something I thought! Yeah its definitely not yet, its at the start of lent. Prob a few weeks. Anyways, good job avoiding the unneccessary carbs on your trip! Things should balance out once you get home. Yay for coming home to see Mr. A!

I think you have been putting in a valiant effort, even if the scale is not reflecting it right now. The good news is that it would have been so much worse had you given in to the temptation of all those extras. After a week back to your old routine, the numbers should settle back down and you can get back to business as usual.

I wish business as usual was getting below 190...hopefully will happen soon when I get back. I know it's not salt, I never limit salt at home, I like it and eat it liberally. If you look at my weight chart and see peaks, you know when I went on trips. I gain every time, and this time, gained less than I ever have, so I guess that is a good thing. I guess it's just the estimated calories, additional carbs, lack of movement, antibiotics, and a super-slow metabolism. Mr. A told me last night that he has a really fast metabolism and has to eat all the time. Great, but I've never seem him eat a lot.

I know you are doing the low carb diet, but I would suggest if you have not already, read 'Wheat Belly'. He has lot of valid points and some not so valid. But it is a good read to learn about your body and how it reacts to food. I learned a lot even after reading a ton of other 'food' related books.

i read that book quite a while ago, and never wanted to eat wheat again. I really don't eat it much at all, in fact, Tuesday night was the first time I've had wheat of any kind for months. Thanks for the info, keep the books coming.

I'm like you, I have a tortoises metabolism, I can gain weight eating 1600 calories a day, that's most people's diet caloric intake. Mr A is gonna be Mr B when it comes to going out to dinner, but all other things considered he sounds dreamy, or is that a dated term? Regardless welcome back home, don't worry about the bump, enjoy an amazing weekend....
