MightyFull's Journal, 31 January 2013

Did I share I purchased an exercise ball chair for my office? I'm working my way up to eventually all day on it. My back gets tired. Hmm, could mean core not up to par yet. First day was 1 hour. Second day was 2.5 hrs. Yesterday was about 1.5 hrs. Today I'm shooting for 3 hours to 4 hours. (And yes, your behind encourages you to get up more frequently....it can only handle so much bounce and balance.) Love it. I didn't get the one with the back support as most reviews indicated they removed it shortly after purchasing. I think I will be adding the time I'm on the ball and doing deskwork, because it is more of a workout than just chillin' in my old office chair.

Still working on getting back into the routine world. Some days are good, some days aren't. I continue to try....Happy Thursday to ya'll!

A ball chair huh? That's interesting I've never heard of that before. That wouldn't go over well at my office, but maybe an idea for the home office, then when I'm doing bills or homework I'd be working my core too. What a good idea! I hope today is a good day for you!

Hey thanks for reminding me about the ball chair I have sitting in the corner of my home office, lol! I thought about it last week & was going to start using again then forgot. *swapping chair out now*

We have a ball chair in our therapy dept--how do they work? I've seen it sitting over there, but I didn't really know what it was supposed to do??

You just sit on it - but unknown to you - your abs and back are having to work to actually balance you on the ball. I've had some problems with my back and tend to sit in my office chair all day with little movement. You can't sit on the ball chair for that long. Your body will not allow you to. It encourages movement. I'm liking it so far. The goal is to be on it all day everyday. Baby steps. I will be in an office where I won't have it....bet I'll miss it! :)

She's right, it forces you to engage your core. The movement is definitely the biggest benefit I got from it, because I've had back surgery four times so being in the same position for too long is never good for me. I can wiggle around and stretch one way or another every so often and it keeps me from getting stiff. Word of warning if you're ever considering purchasing one, make sure it's good quality. I had bought a cheapie exercise ball to sit on while working at home (not the ball chair, but only difference is that there was no wheel assembly for it to sit on) and it burst, sending me flat on my butt HARD. We lived in a ground-level apartment at the time so under the carpet it was cement. I had to go to the dr and I was in pain on Ibuprofen for like a week. Not to mention I hadn't lost much weight yet, so I was pretty heavy. Anyway, lesson learned, lol.

The one I purchased was $126 (with taxes and shipping) BURST RESISTANT BALL is the words you must see. The one I have does not have the low back support, so it's basically a ball on wheels. Since I'm 5'11 and 3/4, I chose to add the 2" extenders to the base before adding the wheels. The more inflated the ball is, the more your core is engaged. And goodness knows if you have to lean over to pick up a dropped pen....howdy!!! There is a weight limit on the one I purchased - 300lbs. I purchased mine from www.chairhero.com. I think it was $105 before shipping/taxes. I looked at alot of them - and paid attention to the reviews as well. If you want to know more details, just let me know.
