bcd's Journal, 30 January 2013

Has January 2013 been the longest month EVER or what?? New years feels like a long time ago. I guess it is finally almost over. Last week my grandfather finally passed, after a year of basically waiting for death in home hospice care. It was still sad, but I'm glad his suffering is over. I traveled to connecticut for the funeral and it was nice to see family i had not seen in a long time. The rest of life keeps chugging along... work has been fine, BF and I are great, we're slowly making progress readying our house for sale and getting closer to finding a house to move into.

Weight-wise, I am holding steady. Yesterday I had to go to the dr (getting a persistent cough checked out, it is nothing serious, just annoying) and got weighed with all clothes, UGG boots, after lunch, etc, ended up being 177. I did not panic, as I knew it wasn't an accurate number. This morning i decided to do a morning weigh in, 170 exactly. I have maintained my weight this month by eating reasonably and doing regular cardio (even though i missed several workouts due to illness and travel). So I will consider that a success! Really the only modification I want to make now is to add bodypump/strength training back into my routine to get back some of my muscle tone and reduce my body fat a bit... not focused on a number, just want to feel strong again, and I know how important strength training is to overall health. I said I would add it back in Feb, so the time is almost here!

Oh, and I did get a juicer and while it was fun to experiment for a few days, I definitely am not interested in doing any kind of fast or drinking juice as anything other than an occasional treat. I did just buy 10 pounds of carrots to juice- carrot juice is delish! But overall I stick to my regular diet- lots of fruit and veggies, whole grains, eggs, fill in the corners with meat, seafood, fats, etc.

i am still suffeirng with frequent migraines brought on by exercise. I got one this morning from riding the bike at a slightly higher intensity than usual- blah. luckily i was able to treat it with non-narcotic meds early before it got too bad, and now I feel fine. But it is SO frustrating :( I have another appt with my doc next month, i and i will probably go back to the nuerologist and possibly a pain management doc. it would be so liberating to be able to workout hard, push myself, challenge myself, etc without fear of a migraine. i know i need to be my own advocate to make that happen, so i will keep trying.

Happy hump day all!

Sorry to hear about your grandpa. But good that he is now at peace. Sounds like you are doing great! Hope you get the migraines figured out soon. And yes, January has been a very long month. Take care!
