OK. I woke up this morning in a bad mood from a dream I had. Anyway, I ate super late last night, i know I shouldn't have but Dre was home and he made this amazing dinner and some ambiance and it was wonderful and I had not seen him in like wo weeks. so there.

Anyway, I have a question, and it may sound stupid and i understand if i get like 400000 duh comments but What does binge mean on FS?

I guess from my understanding it has always been the opposite of Anorexia which is Bulemia when you just eat EVERYTHING in your fridge in one sitting. So I keep seeing people say they binge, is that really what people are doing or is it like I ate a Big mac and Fries with 2 pies and a soda (which in my past life I would do...often) instead of a salad and grilled salmon . I guess I am wondering is it extreme eat 15,000 calories in a sitting or mild overeat and eat 3000 calories in a sitting. I guess in the long run its all "bad" but I just wanted to know. Because honestly I want to know what to say to people because I am not an expert and if you had the 15,000 that could be a problem and I don't want to say something like "aww its ok hun it happens to us all, you will know better next time," but if it the big mac, I mean sometimes ya just need a big mac and fries and you move on. Maybe I should just not comment at all on binge subjects.

ok I am done...back to your regularly schedule programs please.

that's a good question. I don't know. Maybe it has to do with frequency. if you eat that big mac meal every day, you're probably binging. I don't think binging is bulemia, though. I think some people binge without purging, and that's disordered in itself. Anyway, I think you should comment if you want to. In general, I think you should only keep it to yourself if you can't be nice.

I think binging (for me anyway) has usually been due to emotion or upset and then i pretty much eat and eat and eat and then i feel full and i eat some more untill i feel like i could physically be sick i dont think binging has to be about calories either you could probably binge on something fairly healthy and still not feel good if you eat way more than your body wants or needs. I know binge is often used when describing drinking and thats when you drink large qunatities of alcohol and often :)

When I see binge on this site, in regards to Atkins, is when someone over carbs. This is often an exageration like when they go over by 10-50. But other times I have seen it where they have over carbed to the point they ended up with 100+ carbs for the day. But I guess it could really just depend on the person. What I find to be a binge can be totally different than someone else's. Hope that helps.

I mis spoke then...When I said bulemia I just meant the eating part of it not the purging part.... my bad. Yeah Kmartin...that is exactly what I meant. The word is just used alot I thought it was something specific for Fatsecret. ok I get it. Thanks for the input.

My definition of binge is the same has SelinaMinus60. It's emotional eating to the point you don't even know what you had. It's happened a few times. Two people could have an identical meal (Big Mac and fries). One person could have eaten it and moved on (like you said) and be ok. The other person could've eaten it in an emotional state and out of control and subsequently throw themself in a abyss of despair over it. I consider that last part to be a binge.

Another one of those over-used words :) If you eat a cookie, it isn't a binge. Binge eating disorder was recently classified as an Eating Disorder in its own right. I cringe when I see it used here in most contexts, to be honest. Binge eating disorder is a serious emotional/psychological problem. Eating a Big Mac and Fries is not binge eating, unless you are doing it uncontrollably despite the fact that you don't want to. But it's just semantics. I think most of the time when people use that word, they don't even realize what it really means.

I have a serious binge problem. It is not a Big Mac and fries. It is a big mac and fries for dinner, followed by an after thought of sundae with double fudge, followed by another cheeseburger to make it complete, followed by french toast at 9pm and though you have no syrup you use corn syrup followed by cheese and crackers and what ever else you can cram in your mouth. I make myself so sick that literally i cannot see straight. I am dizzy and still continue to eat until I pass out. It feels like I have had too much to drink and pass out in my bed, except for me, its because of food. I have struggled with this for years- probably 10 years now- I thought i was at the point where i could keep it as an isolated incident, but it happened 3 days in a row on the weekend. It doesnt start in the morning for either necessarily. it could start at lunch, dinner, it could start at 10pm at night- depends on what the trigger is. It is terrible.
