Forgot to set my alarm this morning so I had to just grab some nuts and raisins! Today I'm starting my abstinence from coffee for a while so we'll see how that goes. When I regularly drink coffee and I miss a day I'll develop a severe headache. A few months ago I got one of these headaches so badly that I started to vomit! I've been slowly weaning myself off and today as of 11:23am I have not symptoms so that is fantastic!

Yesterday I did something many would think crazy. I bought 20lbs of salted butter and 10lbs of unsalted butter! 30lbs of butter is more than I was expecting! This will probably last me at least 6 months.

How did I come into so much butter?

I'm on the email list and facebook page of a local Weston A Price Foundation Chapter. One goal of the group is to help people source local quality food that typically isn't available in the stores.

This butter comes from a local creamery that mainly produces cheese and sells a little butter on the side.

So what is special about this butter?
100% grass fed and low temp pasteurized. Raw would be preferable but the farmer is afraid of government regulations shutting down his farm. You'd have to see the documentary "Farmmegedon" to understand his fears.

The benefits of grass-fed butter is flavor and nutrients. What more could you ask for right?
Grass-fed butter has nutrients like
-CLA: a natural occurring trans fat which help fight cancer
-Vitamin K2: helps transport calcium into the bones and helps clear out arterial plaque
-Omega-3 fatty acid: helps reduce inflammation and is good for brain health.

Plus who know what other undiscovered nutrients may exist. Bottom line is it is super healthy.

The pinnacle of quality butter is spring butter from grass-fed cow. This is when the nutrients in the grass is most abundant and what turns the butter from yellow to almost orange in color.

In March I plan on purchasing some of this spring butter to hopefully last me for the year.

Time to get back to work!

Always enjoy hearing what you are up to (and what you have been reading). I do understand your quest for butter - I used to be able to get unpasteurized butter from a local farmer and I miss that very much. BTW I did read a little from the WAPF site. What a great way to raise your kids.
