Ruhu's Journal, 13 January 2013

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm experimenting with adding back types of foods to my diet after eating vegan, raw, no dairy & no sugar on a 5-day cleanse. For the next week, I'm adding back seafood & white meat, & so far, still no sugar cravings! But, in my mind, the bigger epiphany came when I wanted a snack of an apple with nut butter. I knew in the past, that many times after eating an apple & nut butter combo, I'd crave chocolate, but that its really a good combo with natural sugar & fiber in the apple, and protein & healthy fat in the nut butter. In the past, I would have chosen a lower fat version of some type, but have been hearing about how in items with reduced fat, manufacturers usually up the sugar content to compensate. Well, that was the case with the lower fat nut butters I had in the house. Luckily, I had an organic, no sugar, raw cashew butter, which I ate with my apple, & ta da (drumroll, please!) -- no chocolate or sugar carvings after! (Its amazing what excites me!) Anyway, onward I go experimenting, but starting my day again praying that --

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

And I pray, breathe, eat, log, post & express again this one day, meal, minute, bite & emotion at a time! xoxox

Am sure you'll find the right combination. I feel our goal through all this is to find a path to a "normal" diet. Never had cashew butter - but I do love apple and peanut butter!

PS - Now for your question on coconut oil: I'm not a "Foodie" so maybe someone else will chime in, but when I fry chicken (low temp saute, unbreaded) the coconut oil makes it taste like I did a high temperature deep fat fry. For other things I have mixed it 50/50 with olive oil. So far I've only used it for frying but I think it would also work great with baking. Will let you know.

WOOHOO ANGEL RUTH!!!! You are so awesome! Our 'angel' telepathy has been in effect as I too have been choosing more low sugar than low fat and actually plan to eventually go to the 'it is what it is ' foods and get off that evil marketing addiction chemical dependent merry go round.... sanity... may God grant it to all of us!
