I wanted to share a few words about weight loss and air travel. The Sunday after Christmas, I went to visit family in Texas. It’s not a long flight only 2 ½ hours but flying for me has always been an uncomfortable experience and I’m not even talking about TSA.
Normally I travel with a suitcase to check and two carry-on bags. The suit case always just about ready to bust, carry-on bags are just as bad. This trip was a little different, my suitcase closed easily and I only needed one carry-on!
I really didn’t think about at the time but it occurred to me later that my going down in weight and down in clothes sizes actually made a difference in the bulk of stuff I carry when I travel. Hard to believe that 44 pounds (so far!) made that kind of real world difference. FYI – I was carrying an 11 days’ worth of Medifast meals too.
Enough about luggage, we all know that seats in airplanes are getting smaller and smaller. I found just the opposite this trip. I would swear the seat-belts were longer because I had a good amount of extra seat-belt strap left over. Usually I have to have run it all the way out just to get it on.
Once I’ve been sitting a while, I start squirming around trying to get comfortable. When doing this I always hit the little button that reclines the seat. Not this time, not once. Even caught a nap, the seat was so comfortable! Also I always try for the aisle seat so I have enough room to get to my bag under the seat in front of me by sticking one leg out into the aisle. This trip I didn’t get the isle. It was the window. No problem. In and out of my carry-on and not even bumping the person next to me.
I’m not a small guy 6’ 1” tall and clocking in at 228 pounds. My goal weight is in site and I have a summer trip planned. I wonder how much bigger the seats will be then!
