I'm back after an extended break!

Over Christmas I was having so much fun with family and friends that I don't get to see often that I stopped properly dieting. I drank quite a lot (but tried to at least make it spirits and diet mixers) and indulged quite a bit food-wise, although not quite as much as I would have done normally. Sadly since I've come back to my flat up in Scotland I keep getting ill which has been putting me off throwing myself back into the diet/exercise routine, but last night I finally had enough of procrastinating and putting it off and drew up a plan of action, and as of today I'm back on the wagon!

I weighed myself this morning and was amazed and relieved not to have put on more weight - frankly I feel undeserving of this mercy, I thought it would be way worse! I suppose one thing that might have helped was an effort back home to keep up some exercise most days, more as a visible sign of my commitment to the healthy habits and long term process that I planned to return to after the holidays than because I really expected it to make a difference! When I needed to get somewhere I tried to always walk if it was possible, even if it meant leaving an hour earlier, and I fitted in quite a few running app runs and forced myself to go up to 'week 3' level.

Now I'm back to 1200 a day calorie limit and its tough because my appetite has definitely increased, and I've got used to having a few more nice treats, but its also such a relief when you start being good again! Its great to get that feeling of self control and to know that you're back on track.

I want to set myself a couple of mini goals:

- 7lbs down from current weight to 164lb by my birthday in just over 2 weeks time(Jan 23rd) - probably a little over ambitious but might as well try!

- to be 11 and a half stone (161 lb) by the time of a hen weekend away that I'm going on on feb 15th

- to be 10 and a half stone (147 lb) by the actual wedding at the end of may

- to get back to recording all food in notebook

- to exercise every day that there's not a good reason (eg health) not to do so, even if its just the get running app.

Finally I just wanted to say that this website made a big difference to my thinking when I was at home. I didn't beat myself up or feel too guilty about taking a break and enjoying myself because I knew I had such a positive place to come back to. I also noticed the positive thinking here - about setting goals, supporting others, challenging yourself and being proud of the results - really affected the way I thought about and reacted to some other things back home too. I guess it really is true that tackling one area of your life helps you in lots of other ways too! And feeling more confident because of the modest weight loss I already achieved certainly didn't hurt either :)

Hope you've all had great holidays and I look forward to catching up with you all and reading about your progress!

You sound really good, Phibs! That sounds so romantic - an apartment in Scotland. You have no idea. Well, it's good that you have always remained honest with yourself, and good that you always kept exercising. You will reach your goals - your positivity is warm and wonderful!
