FullaBella's Journal, 31 December 2012

I don't know why I thought about this today for any reason other than this is just how my mind works. I recalled the opening monologue from the author and motivational speaker, John R. Powers, delivered while at a conference in Vegas. Yes, it was one of the FEW real business sessions I actually made it to in Vegas ~ why in the world they hold a Business Conference in Vegas still baffles me. Cheap lodging I guess.

Nonetheless, that was many years ago and I'm paraphrasing so in the event you have plans to rat me out to Mr. Powers please realize I'm doing my best with the little brain power I have left.

'So here we are in Vegas, home of the all you can eat $2.99 shrimp cocktail. You know, last night as I was about to cut into my 18oz prime rib, I recalled the Surgeon General's stance on healthy eating, well, healthy living overall.'

'It seems if I were to decrease the fat in my diet, stop drinking, and give up smoking, I could add another 10 years to my life. TEN YEARS!'

'Now, that's pretty cool, isn't it?'

'Only, there's a catch. They don't give you those ten years back when you're in your 20's! They just tack them onto the end of your life. So, when I'm 70, and curled up in my bed shivering under a blanket in the nursing home, I'll have the Surgeon General to thank.'

Okay - it's something like that. You get the point - you're all pretty smart cookies here. I'm sure if you google him you can find a link to this speech and he's really very interesting.

I guess I thought about it TODAY because it's New Years Eve and I practically overdosed on journals yesterday full of the 'New Year, time to get Healthy starting.... Wednesday!'

Even *I* found myself buying into the thought 'Hey, I think I'll close 2012 out with a bang. I think I'll order myself a big 'ole deep dish cheese in the crust meat lovers Pizza!'

Silly, huh? Why oh Why do we do that? Okay, not we, but ME, I, my silly mind.

Why do I think such silly thoughts like 'woooo... it's (((( this day )))) and I should just go crazy and that means EATING CRAP?

Why don't I pick a less proven disastrous risky self punishing thing to do to myself like... run with scissors ... or ... sign up online for a health insurance quote (takes FOREVER to get off those guy's phone list - I know because it's been THREE YEARS now!).

I guess for me pizza would have been the equivalent of many folks who'll go out (or stay in with home parties) and wake up in the morning trying to recover from too much champagne and celebrating.

I'd probably wake in the morning with swollen feet, nausea, and 'never again...' while wondering if the Pizza Hut guy thinks our 'affair' has been reignited (back in '07 when MH was in the hospital for six months I saw the PH guy so often my neighbors probably thought we were an item. We WEREN'T. It's a JOKE, folks!)

So then the Power's monologue popped in my head ~ I think my subconscious was saying 'Hey, Bella, no matter what you do, what you eat, exercise, etc., you're still going to end up OLD and eventually die.'

Okay, yeah... that's true. Dangit.

But even so... I already know what pizza, junk food, and liquor do to my body, mind and soul. No need to go down that road again.

Resolution for 2013: Find something to do that makes me still feel young and wild.

Thank you for reading. Happy New Year Y'all.
