kmartdollie's Journal, 30 December 2012

Well I went to the gym, and when I weighed myself at the gym on Friday, I weighed 176. Two pounds lighter than my doctor's office. Today I weighed 175. It was awesome. I haven't seen the scale go down in a long time. I think the 1200 calories a day is helping, and I think the stepping up the exercise is helping. I went to the gym and I did the elliptical for 30 minutes, ran for 58 minutes, walked for 5, did some ab exercises, and walked the dog for 30 minutes. I am trying my best to rotate what I eat more so I can try the 5 meals a day like my doctor suggested. I had yogurt and strawberries for breakfast, I had a sugar free brownie at noon. I was feeling really hungry so I came home and had a turkey wrap at 1pm. Then I worked out, and at 5:15pm I had some hummus and carrots. I still have a taco salad to eat, and another snack of an apple and cheese. I think the key is really, really thinking about food and trying to plan 24 hours in advance. I have to get over wanting a "meal". Eating 5 times a day is not conducive to meals. I have to get used to just having a sandwich by itself, or for breakfast just eating yogurt and fruit. I kind of like having "snacks" all the time, but those snacks are pretty much the 5th meals. I have to get used to all of this, and I am starting a new job next week. I have to get used to first shift. I am really excited about working 9 to 5 with an hour for lunch. I haven't had a lunch hour in 5 years! I am thinking about my schedule and what I am going to have to do. I think I will try walking the dog in the morning when I get up. I think I will try going to the gym straight from work at 5pm. I thought about getting up at 5 to work out, but I don't think it's going to work. Even if I got to the gym at 5am on the dot, I wouldn't have enough time to work out like I need to. My running workouts with elliptical and abs and free weights are almost 2 hours long! I wouldn't be done and couldn't get home until 7am, and that's not going to work to be to work by 8am. So I am going to have to make an effort to go to the gym during the rush hour at 5:30pm where there are few parking spots and the gym is the most crowded. I wish it wasn't like this, but I just wouldn't have enough time to go early, early in the morning. It's a big change. I know people that work out early in the morning have more success with being consisten with their workout, but I just don't think it's going to work for me. I am a night owl and I can't see myself going to bed at 9pm to wake up at 5am. I think I will figure this thing out, but I have been doing A LOT of thinking about food and exercise the past few days.
