HCB's Journal, 22 December 2012

I am eating well over my RDI lately, and certainly too many refined carbs. It just seems I need a break from the routine...or I am struggling to feel enthused right now.

I am not overeating but my choices are higher calorie than usual - and higher fats and carbs.

Thank goodness my DH is "monitoring" me - he is reminding me to say "no" more often than "yes" when treats are presented.

Maintenance is my goal right now - and I know I will get back to my usual routine soon because I do not want to backslide and become unhappy.

It is simple - change what you are doing if you want a different result!

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

My IRL friend says 'if you're wanting something your body is telling you something. I know you'll figure it out.

Maybe you do just need to maintain and then in January hit it again. That's what one of my friends is doing. She worked on weight loss from January to August then from September to December she worked on maintaing. There are so many good holiday foods to eat and we are meant to enjoy food. When something becomes a have too it no longer is a desire. I know your desire is to lose the rest of the weight to your goal. You know what? YOU WILL!! You have great determination, give yourself a little time to maintain then starting with the new year refocus from maintaining to weight loss. You will be at your goal in no time!!

HCB, I so hear you. I changed my RDI to 1500 again today, and it is going to stay there until January 2, 2013. I intend to go down to 1200 on that date, but right now it is my goal to maintain through the holidays, not beat myself up, and push harder in the gym - particularly with my running. I am looking for hidden calories everywhere. I think between the fat free half and half I was using for 6 beverages a day, plus sugar free popsicles I was eating, I think I have been taking in almost 200 extra calories a day without thinking about it or questioning it. No wonder I have had so much trouble losing weight! I am really going to examine things and try to think of other things I can do with food to really get super honest with calories. You just have to survive the holidays, then you can drive as hard as you want. That's my plan, anyway.

I'm in the same boat as you right now with the food struggles and hoping to be able to maintain until I get myself back on track. I haven't had the courage (or desire) to consult the scale just yet because I know I won't be happy with what it says. I'm glad your hubby is helping you avoid some of pitfalls that are presented to you. I think I might have to ask my own hubby to help me out, too. This is the most difficult month for me and I can use all the help I can get! Hang in there. We can get through this and get back our weight loss mojos!

Hang in there, HCB! You are so right to just try to maintain/not gain too much through the holidays. We'll all be back on track in 2013! So, enjoy your family & friends until then & don't beat yourself up too much. Merry Christmas Eve, my FS friend! xoxox
