I had a fantastic day yesterday! It was one of those days where everything went right. I would think of a person at the conference who I would like to run into and there they would appear right before my eyes!

I also went to a breakout session where a young Navajo teacher was speaking. He won the National Rural Teacher of the Year this year, and was so inspiring and moved me tears several times. He teaches PE at a high school in the middle of the Navajo Reservation, and coaches the track & Field team. He teaches the kids that exercise is the key to a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Specifically, running. 100% of his teams graduate from High school, in a place where the graduation rate is about 65%. He made me want to put on some running shoes and go! His name is Shaun Martin in case you are interested in looking him up.

I ate really well, considering I was at a conference all day. Lunch was salad then steak with mashed potatoes and some orange cubes that were either carrots or sweet potatoes. I had salad and steak. Dessert was already on the table when I sat down, I couldn't tell you what it was but everyone was gobbling it up. I asked them to take it away....yay me!

Back to the conference today...

Good job passing up the dessert! I don't know if I could have done that or not. Darn you sweet tooth!

I so admire your will power, to send the dessert away is wonderful. Something I could not do. As the mother of an adaptive PE teacher I LOVE your passion for your job also. Have a great second day at the conference.

So great that the conference is going well! We are in your corner and hoping that you gain a LOT of support. Kudos for you for passing up the items that you know would create a negative impact!! What a great trend you are on!! Good luck today!

I'm from a reservation here (Lower Brule Sioux Tribe). No idea what our graduation rate is, but I'm sure it's not 100%. The kids have always had a good basketball team, that's the big sport on our reservations in SD. I'd wonder if running could help too. I think maybe in a different way, since it's such and individual sport. Perhaps builds self-confidence and self-reliance?

took a Christmas gift from Figi's to our neighbor yesterday - her dining room table was covered with freshly baked cookies...she said she was going to bake us some sugar free ones, but I still snitched a peanut butter one - broke off a small piece, and gave the rest to my hubby - just had enough for a taste, and that was good for me! glad you're having a good time at the conference, and keep up the good work!
