Hi all. I don't journal as much as I should, mainly because I don't get a lot of turns at the computer, and when I do it's usually for work. I do read a lot of other journals though, which gives me a lot of perspective on my own life. For the most part I've always been pretty healthy and grateful for it. My family medical history is a train wreck: cancer, heart disease, alcoholism, diabetes, lupus, Alzheimer's,... So when I went for my physical last week and was told my blood pressure was high I was't all that surprised. My Mother had it for many years and took medication. I suppose I could have accepted it as my fate, filled the script and went home to my life. Any of my Buddies might have noticed (dare I hope) that I was absent from here for 2 months. I was getting nowhere and lost interest in trying. I didn't actually gain any weight in those 2 months (lost a pound), so that was a blessing. Anyway, I came home from the Doctor, took a shower, (ewww, Pap Smear!), stepped on the scale and came back to FS. I need it and my Buddies, to help me lower my BP without meds. I know I can do it. I have been walking every day, reduced my sodium to under 1500 mg a day, and am still watching my protein/carbohydrate ratio to avoid spiking my blood sugar. After one week, I have lost 1.2 pounds. It sounds like so little, but it means everything to me. I am thrilled. To continue on my journey to a better me, today I am getting my hair cut and colored. This is a very big deal because I haven't been to a hairdresser in 20 years. My daughter trims the dead ends and L'Oreal covers the grays. :) So wish me luck and thanks so much for reading. Hi, I seems like we're on a pretty similar journey. I went in for the physical and was told I'm pre-diabetic and hypertensive. Not much of a surprise but I have turned my diet on it's ear. He promised me I'd be off the blood pressure meds when my weight comes down. I'm finding that it's all a process and a journey -- this site is helping me to understand what I've been doing wrong (gained weight on weight watchers!!) and it's helping me to make better choices. Welcome back! I *did* notice you had dropped off in using FS. I am sorry to hear that you have been having a tough time but, wow, gone 2 months and even lost a lb! Sounds like the doctor's visit was a real wake up call. You can do this! Going to the salon is a great idea. Not only is it relaxing, it is also a real mood booster when you look your best, not just at your goal weight, but all through the journey. Every little thing you do to invest in yourself builds on each other and increases the overall effectiveness of all your endeavors.

Hi, i had noticed you were missing for a while, glad you are back though. Yes i believe you can lower your blood pressure without medication. my knee is great again so apart from the scare i have not been set back too much although it is still stiffening. Keep up the very Christmas but only tasters of goodies, at least that is what i am going to try and i think i can do it as i am in a good frame of mind. much love Sazy. xxxx

I too always struggled with weight even during my career in the Navy where I had to keep it down. I have COPD and GERD as well as high cholesterol. I would love to lose weight in order to get off some of my meds. I think I am stuck with the COPD stuff but weight also aggravates that. FS helped me before and I am hoping I will be successful again. I used a site like this to quit smoking. We can do it.

1.2 pound wieght loss in a week is great, slow and steady is the way to go. I'm impressed that you left the site and didn't gain but actually lsot a bit, way to go.
