I just have issues with art which is abstracted to the nth degree to convey a singular tenuous concept. It's not art it's just the artist's way of stroking their own egos. Mental masturbation at it's worst.

No expressionism I can handle. It's once the artist leaves the aesthetic side to concentrate purely on the concept. A slashed canvas is just a slashed canvas. A pile of woven steel wool just looks like a giant turd... They may represent the concept but for me if the concept isn't also aesthetically pleasing then why bother?
That's why when I end up at the Tate I always seem to gravitate to the cubism and pop art sections. Warhol & Lichtenstein managed to convey both the concept and produce a work that was aesthetically pleasing separate from the concept.
