HCB's Journal, 18 September 2012

I have a lack of motivation for my exercise for about a week now - I just don't understand it! I love my JM DVDs,and see how effective they have been for losing inches and reshaping my body.

I usually exercise in the mornings but lately been dragging my butt out of bed tired. MY DH says I appear too be sleeping fine...so I don't get it.

My food is good - so I should have plenty of energy.

Any suggestions to get me pumped up?

Still grateful for:

- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today
- My DH - who is my greatest "cheerleader"
- My Bengal cat companions named Bodhi and Ravi
- My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
- My connection to the Mother Earth and its entire splendor
- My physical health

It's probably dark in the morning and your body just wants to stay in bed. Try just going for a walk instead of doing the JM DVD. Enjoy the last days of summer/beginning of fall. Take a week off of doing the DVD...maybe you're tired of that. OR tell yourself to get going, you'll feel better for accomplishing the workout!

I agree with aggie95... maybe you are just bored of doing the same routine. Do you have any other DVD's to try? Some weights or other equipment you could use? Maybe, if you've ever considered taking up running, you could try the Couch to 5k program. You can download the program for free off the net from several sources and there are even podcasts you can download that tell you when to walk and when to run so you don't have to time yourself. I did the program to my own music and used a stop watch. Plus, it was the first really dedicated exercise I ever did in my life and I was 225 lbs when I started so you truly can be a couch potato and get through the program. Also, do you take any vitamin supplements? You might benefit from a B vitamin supplement as a deficiency in the B's can lead to lack of energy. But you're doing great still. You'll be back in the saddle soon, I'm sure!

Hmm, sometimes we just are not in the mood to pump up the iron. Instead, think of other activities. Go for a walk, use stairs instead of an elevator, do some housework (that is a biggie for me). Exercise does not have to be a fixed regimen, in reality anything you do physically that is beyond your normal day to day activity can be exercise. Also, the days are getting shorter and the nights longer, from a biological perspective, the sun is our natural energy booster and its presence invigorates us. When you are feeling sluggish, get some sunlight in...I am not saying sun tan..but there is nothing as good to boost your mood (besides pharamceuticals) than sunlight.

When we skip our exercises for some days appears that our body gets used to the lazyness... Perhaps all you have to do is force yourself into some kind of exercise today (maybe a different one, like everybody sugested) and the wellfare you'll feel will be the motivation for the next days... As soon as you can tell you'll be back on track!!!

How about trying on those jeans you've been saving?

@BuffyBear - LOL - you so right! I tried them this morning and they button and zip...barely! That is what motivated the post because if I were doing my weight work and ab work - they would likely fit now!

Here's a personal question: Are you regular? If I don't go to the potty ... I get very tired. Take some fish oil pills... helps me. ;)

Thanks buddies - I think the consensus is getting OUTDOORS for a walk or bike ride would spark me. I did ride 10 miles on Saturday and did fine, so...

The great thing about the outdoors is that you can't just stop and be done with whatever you're doing. It's much more effective in that you have a start and an end and no matter what will have to head back to your start point :) Besides, the energy of the outdoors is far better than that of a gym full of people. I find them very distracting.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with Mom2Boxers. Being regular is a huge factor. when you are not regular or stopped up, toxins can build up and cause you to get sluggish. Also, yes, get outside, it will provide you the zip in your step as you walk, bike and exercise for the day. Keep up the great work!

Regularity is not an issue - I get lots of fiber! LOL - but I do think being OUTDOORS will improve my mood and attitude. So, on with the sweatshirt and maybe a walk after work today will help!

Trails with trees, bridges, and bodies of water really up my mood!

good for you, be one with nature!

I say shake it up! Do something new or ride your bike more. Then when the weather is bad you and JM can get back to it! I also agree about the time changing. I know I've been a little sluggish in the am too!

Anything in your diet different? Getting into 'hearty' food weather. I know I had the chili craving last week. Perhaps something is dragging you down with being to 'heavy' or perhaps too many carbs. I know for me, certain foods send me into a stupor! I like the idea of getting those jeans on as motivation, BuffyBear.

Not really any big changes - some low-fat yogurt and cottage cheese instead of nonfat versions...but feel it gives me energy. I just think it is getting cooler and darker...and I do not like Winter. It is coming though and I cannot stop it!

Nope, unfortunately we cannot control the seasons and weather, so I agree that you should get outside for some exercise while you can. :)

@kimjinxie: LOL - I live in Minnesota! Winter comes eary and is long and dark and cold! You are lucky to be in CA.

You're doing something right. That line on your weight chart just keeps plummeting. I would imagine the change in seasons has something to do with your dragging. After all, we're moving into the closing of the year. Get out there and commune with all things fresh and natural. You'll get it back. Hugs!!!
