HCB's Journal, 10 September 2012

Argh...I had a very good food day except for the extra carbohydrates...one cup of yellow rice and some pretzels!

I stayed within my RDI but I seldom eat "real" carbs other than fruits or vegetables - the extra "bad" carbs typically create cravings for more of them. These are foods my DH eats and it was difficult to resist tonight. I logged it all but not happy I ate the extra carbs.

Grateful for:

- The good health of my loved ones

- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today
- My DH - who is my greatest "cheerleader"
- My Bengal cat companions named Bodhi and Ravi
- My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
- My connection to the Mother Earth and its entire splendor
- My physical health

Oh, the guilt we put on ourselves! It really will be fine, and I've actually experienced a new loss at times after something like that. The key is to not allow it to continue for days or weeks. Chin up! :-)

Must be in the air because I had some extra carbs that were not needed also. But you know what you burned more than you ate and that's what counts!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing a stellar job. And Baxie is right. I've noticed a loss after carbs. Wonder if it's the serotonin? In any case, you're on track.

Lately I have noticed that when I have a really big carb day and not enough exercise that it zaps my energy!! I hate that. Feels like a carb coma. You will be fine, little slips aren't bad unless you let them take over and you are stronger than that now. :)

It may have been just what you needed at the time. Be satisfied with it and move on to a new day. You can do it!

Everything in moderation, better to satisfy a craving with a small amount then to binge on larger amounts later. This is advice my mom got when learning diet control through the diabetic nutritional councelling she received.. it's all good. Besides you are doing an amazing job.. :)

Wow - thanks for the great wisdom and support, Buddies! It is not that I try to be perfect - it is that I KNEW I wuld feel crappy today if I chose to eat the stuff. Like kimjinxie said, it zaps my energy and it is like a "carb coma" the next day.

I do the same thing..I know I'm going to feel like crap when I eat crap but end up doing it anyway. I wonder how long it takes for this negative feedback to work.

Just goes to show how different everybody is. It is better for me not to eat any (rice, etc) at all than to try a small portion. Guess it comes down to the individual.

@Buffy - YES! That is exacty how I feel. It is better for me to avoid rice, breads, wheat products than to try to moderate. I started with 1/3 cup rice but eventually ate 1 full cup! It is not on my food plan and I dont even miss it when I avoid it...

hmmm....I haven't noticed that crappy feeling you're talking about from a binge. Or maybe that's actually all the guilt I feel. I'll have to pay more attention. However, for me, it's more about junky snack things, not rice, potatoes, bread, or other "normal" foods... interesting.
