HCB's Journal, 10 September 2012

Yesterday, we watched the children of my friend play fast pitch softball. Both daughters, ages 11 and 13, are pitchers and pretty darn good. One kid struck out the side in 14 pitches!

They opted for the Chinese Buffet after watching the four games played. Now, in the past, I could have loaded up a plate with high sodium, fried, carbohydrate nightmares..but not yesterday!

I went right for the cold boiled shrimp, sauteed greenbeans, one skinless chicken satay, and fruits! I chose to eat one small steamed dumpling...but wasn't impressed.

It is cool that I went to the buffet and my eyes only went to the things I wanted to eat. The rest of it was a blur - not on the menu for me and just not part of the options!

OMG! That is wonderful! To not be disappointed in out to eat choices is huge! And at a buffet! You just rock!

Look how far you've come!

It is a strange feeling when you look at what you choose when out to eat, isn't it? I find I have been ordering a lot of salads over the 'starchy' food when out and I feel full afterwards.

Good job HCB! I find that Asian food is so difficult for me. I just can't do the breading, most of the rice and the noodles. Really narrows it down for me. I have found that my blood sugar can still tolerate Mongolian Barbeque, so that's good. It's so hard to make good choices at a buffet, and surrounded by other family members who are totally indulging. That's one of the reasons I don't look forward to Thanksgiving. But so good for you that you resisted!

Great job! When I had family in town I caved in and went to town on the buffet. Discipline is a key ingredient in any recipe with success in mind. Glad one of us is on it!

Awesome!! Great job! We went for hibachi Sat and although the sodium is a killer and had the added fat I opted for the scallops and traded a guy at out table his veggies for my rice :-). Thing is I really do like them better. I did give in on the ginger dressing though...sooo yummy! Cool thing is my son is at least trying things now and asked for one of my scallops and he liked it.

Good choices! Although I have to laugh at the term "Chinese" - having met "real" Chinese people and knowing that "real" Chinese food is not like that.

lol Buffy you are so right - we have a proper Chinese restaurant not far from here ("real" Chinese people actually eat there) and their food is delicious and not the stuff that is sold at takeaways....

Ok, now I'm feeling insecure calling it Chinese, lol, but I LOVE it...just can't eat it anymore. Something in it (MSG?) gives me palpitations...sheesh, why couldn't it be ice cream!? :-) Good job, HCB! You've come a long way, baby!

Excellent control, something I am still working on so it's great to know it can be done!

Congrats on maintaining control - and at a buffet, no less! Buffets are the usually the most difficult because the food is just sitting there for the taking. Bravo to you!

@ BuffyBear - my friend's children ARE Chinese and the whole family has been to China three different times. You are right though, there are few places in America that serve the more healthy foods they have eaten in China.

I love Chinese too and I just go for the meats without breading and the green beans. I tend still overdo it.... but I stay grain free. It's one place I can find things to eat. Hugs!
