Not crazy about this eating plan but I committed to it for 7 days - following to the letter what my doctor's written guidelines are. I know after these 7 days I will try to go back to the WOE that was so successful for me last year when I lost 55 pounds. I've been eating a plant based diet. It's been hard without the dairy, and my daily 1/4 bagel with lite cream cheese. But I am not getting enough protein. I think yesterday I had less than 15 grams. But I can only eat so many nuts and I didn't want any kind of bean after 2 days of chili full of kidney beans. I stir fried brussels sprouts, onions and carrots yesterday and it was tasty and filling, but it needed chicken or shrimp or fish to get some protein in it.

Hang in there - hummus is a tasty protein. Rice and beans are good - how about eggs? It's only 7 days, I don't think you are going to be hurt over 7 days with low protein.

Thanks Abba - I've never had hummus, but have been thinking about it. I'm a picky eater, there are lots of things I don't like, but kids like hummus so I may try it. Funny you should mention eggs because I was thinking of having eggs today. I gave up egg yolks in December when my cholesterol was high. After 6 months without yolks, shrimp, beef and keeping my cholesterol intake to less than 200mg all cholesterol readings were well within normal ranges and I asked my doctor about eggs and he said it's okay in moderation. Today I am going grocery shopping and will buy veggies to make a salad. I rarely make salads but am actually looking forward to it. Found a recipe on FS to make my own raspberry vinaigrette!

Pumpkin seeds are high in protein. Almond milk has some, and so low in calories you can drink a lot of it. My neighbor says I can make yogurt out of it, so maybe I will try it. I said I would do this with you so I will shop also with the no-dairy plan in mind. Gained 4 pounds in the past two weeks so I do have to change things up!

Did you eliminate dairy because of a health reason or because your strictly doing plant based? Greek yoghurt is a great protein source if you can consider dairy. I don’t eat meat or chicken but eat eggs, Greek yoghurt, tofu and protein powders to meet my protein intake.

Abba - I was having almond milk, my doctor suggested it when I told him I drank skim milk. It was okay, I made my hot chocolate with it at times, but didn't like it enough to just drink it. And it has very little protein, compared to the same serving size as skim milk. Swedishblondie - I'm eliminating dairy just to see what happens if I follow ALL my doctor's suggestions on how to eat. The diet he suggested is to try to get the inflammation levels down in my blood tests. I asked him why skim milk was bad, I don't suffer any ill effects from dairy. He said there are hormones in the milk. I am just doing this for the 7 day challenge to see if I feel better, but think I will go back to having some dairy. I also asked him about protein powder and he said it's a processed food and the goal is to eliminate processed foods as much as possible. I did have 2 eggs today. I sometimes have Greek yogurt for the protein, really like it with chopped almonds mixed in! Thanks John for your support too!

What about a non dairy protein drink. Atkins has a very tasty one as does Eas/Advant low calorie and high protein filling and very good when cold.

Adefsebserver-I'm not so strong. I couldn't get through yesterday without eating poorly. But today is another day. Alnona-I'll go back to having dairy after this challenge is over (Sunday). Just wanted to see if not having dairy would have some kind of positive effect on me. I do have some protein shakes/puddings and snacks from Wonderslim that I use normally when I know I am not going to get enough protein. I'm not having them this week though

Fritzy22 There are also plant based protein like yellow bean and others you can add to food or drink in a shake if that helps. . I am pretty picky about my protein shakes and only use whey - the yellow bean one I add to food because it feels grainy in my mouth. Hang in there - you are doing a great job.
