Moderators, please share this in case it's helpful to someone. Thank you.

The trendy high-fat keto diet appeals to many because instead of burning carbs, the body trains itself to burn fat, but if you’re using it to lose weight, then you’ve got the wrong idea. Research from the American Society for Nutrition reported that low-carb diets hardly made any detectable difference in weight loss compared to a diet high in carbs.

While a low-carb diet may help lower insulin levels, which can be useful for people with diabetes, there’s not enough research to prove the calorie-burning effects. And, many keto dieters have reported “keto flu” symptoms of aches, wooziness, and low energy, so it may not be worth cutting the carbs.

I do. But I also keep in mind that different things work for different people; it's a branch of bio-chem we don't fully understand. Also, the more knowledge you have, the better. It's not a competition.

the effects you mention are temporary and yes the diet originally was designed to heal not lose weight. but the weight loss is a side effect that many enjoyed. Eating low carb removes a lot of foods that are higher calorie low food value that alone helps many to lose fat. Each to their own.

The lucrative carb industry worry about loss of market share, and have tons of money to create false news like this.

If you follow the Keto diet the proper way it can be good for you, by proper way I mean it's not supposed to be a diet where you can eat lbs of bacon and fat I see so many posts on line with people starting to follow the keto diet bragging they eat 1 lb of bacon every morning and 1 lb of lunch meat for lunch every day but without the bread. Those people are just looking for an easy way not to diet... Cut out the simple carbs breads, candies, sodas cookies etc. have healthier proteins, not breads and lunch meats

It does seem some see keto as a panacea, and that is definitely problematic! As for weight loss, while its not my thing, I say that as long as it works and your doctor is on board- carry on. I don't like when keto people bug me about my woe (which happens a lot!), so I'm not comfortable bugging them about theirs :)

Anonb, I am sorry anyone is bugging you for your WOE, no one should do that to anyone. You need to do what works for you.

As a Type 2 Diabetic, keto works to control my BS so that I don't need T2D medications. Please don't start up the keto vs CICO forum war again!!!!!

Fun thread going this AM; bacon industry is fighting back with 'Bacon for Life" sweepstakes.....true story. BTW, a pound of bacon would provide about 650 calories and the daily (100%) recommended amount of sodium. So for me, about 25% of my calories and 100% of the required sodium. Tough call honestly and a tradeoff I may have considered years ago. Find your path to success folks and continue on. :)

Yall are so funny! LOL, ain't a single one of you got a PhD in nutrition, and mostly all anyone here has is links to whatever supports your own philosophy. I'm in the same boat, having only my own experience and online research to go on. The difference for me (and many others like me) is we have found what works for us and we just do it... No need to preach or convert. I'm just losing weight at a steady pace, ditching medications right and left, and running my own life like I never have before now that I'm finally something approaching healthy.

How did you lose your weight?

Wow, what a load of poop. I've lost over 30 pounds on keto and I've loved the new life style. Never felt better. The mainstream sure is fighting it.

I'm not a fan of low carb diets because carbs are so important in moderation!! your brain cells run solely off of glucose....which is a carb

I have lost 45 Lbs on Keto and feel great. I am not eating the high fats I mainly have been eating less than 40 carbs a day. I am staying away from breads and pasta. You aren't supposed to eat high carb fruits on Keto. I have been enjoying mangoes, watermelon, nectarines and cantaloupe. Still loosing weight. Well from your comment yes fat is being burned and that means weight is being lost. You can't loose fat without loosing at least some weight.

I of course am doing what works for ME! My doctor is on board. I go to see her in a month and a half. I am off my high blood pressure medication. I have taken this on as a lifestyle change not just a diet.

Folks... can we just say that certain WOEs work for different bodies? Results very all across the good camps... realizing "a little" success with Keto (myself) doesn't discount the results of others using different tools... thanks for posting, it's a good thing to be mindful that something works for everybody
