Been in maintenance mode for about four months after hitting <185 goal. I'm doing it by eating carbs and working out three times a day. NOT! Low carb for the win! In the old days when I did caloric restriction(25% protein, 25% fat,50% carbs) and P90X things went south fast when I got injured and could no longer do heavy workouts. More power to the young gym rats but there are a lot of us "more experienced" folk who absolutely cannot "just do it". A lot of us also have work and responsibilities that absolutely do no allow "me time" to go to a gym. ("You need a ride to chemo/radiation AND your enoxaparin shot? Nah, I'll pass, I have to get in a couple more sets.") I've been on other diets, low carb/keto/modified Atkins is the only one that really is easy to stick to. I'm rarely hungry and am almost always very satisfied after eating. That never happened on other diets. YMMV, this is just my singular data point.

glad you made your point. long term maintenance on this diet can be a lifestyle and I think it helps to see this from someone that has been in maintenance for a while

I have a question for you though. do you feel you need to be in ketosis for this long term plan?? I am close to my goal weight wise and just focusing on working out to get rid of the rest of my fat layers and I don't think it is going to be necessary to actually be focused on ketosis, just the lifestyle. I have food allergies and sensistivities so I have to be unusually low on carbs anyways.

I think a normal person does not need to be in ketosis. After hitting goal weight, a normal person can adjust macros to whatever works for them. Imo, raising carbs can be a slippery slope and be a much more difficult diet to live with than true low carb. The rules are pretty simple on low carb! You said it! I am on low carb because of the NSV's. My overall health is better. Allergies went from bad to minor, dumped all meds, haven't been sick in almost three years, etc. I still have belly fat that is slowly coming off. I do gentle cardio and weights to build muscle right on the edge of hurting myself.

And by that, I mean that I'm abnormal. :)

well so am I, but that is the reason to go keto anyways, to clean up the diet and avoid all those things that made us sick in the first place! Having huge immune issues with all the healthy additives I have been doing so once I get back to basics after my break, I will be doing just beef and butter. I don't know if I will push to get back into ketosis since I am so close. that is another reason I wanted to ask. with my 7 days a week of workouts I am not overly concerned if my protein level is a little high as long as I am in my calories and reasonable macro's. got to heal now.
