Ive been struggling with my diet/lifestyle lately. Ive been losing lots of hair, which was the one thing I always thought was beautiful about myself. I know that losing hair is part of losing weight, I just wasnt ready for the amount of hair I was losing.

Is that a result of keto?

I have never had hair loss with dieting. Have you had your thyroid checked? That is one of the signs of a thyroid not working properly.

Maybe you could take a vitamin supplement, there seem to be a lot of suggestions, so I wish you the best of luck finding what will make your hair grow back!

No, No! Losing hair is not part of losing weight! Don't neglect this! Are you stressed? You can lose hair by stress.

I spoke with a doctor who said that when you diet, the caloric deficit will cause hair loss. Some people experience lots, some not as much. I have a lot of weight to lose, so I am noticing the hair loss more. It's completely natural to lose hair when you go from eating over 4000 calories a day to eating around 1100.

It isn't part of keto. It is because my body was used to processing 3000-4000 calories a day, so when I drastically cut that down to 900-1100, it has to adjust how it processes those calories. Hair follicles are lowest on the priority list, so the hair falls out. Many people who lose significant amounts of weight can attest to this. It's not the same for everyone though. I was taking biotin, ran out, and just hadn't gotten more. I went and got more today, so it should even back out. Thank you all for your concern.

Sorry you are seeing that as a side effect of your healthy choices - maybe there is a supplement or additional vitamin that will help. Stay with it sweetie, you are worth it!

I knew going in that there were going to be hard things, but I know in the end it will all be worth it. Once I hit a point where I can maintain, it will start to grow back normally again. I know it's only temporary. Just a step in the process.

The other side of the coin is that people who take in a lot of salt may have an accumulation of salt at the base of the hair follicle which in essence chokes off the nutritional flow to the follicle. Fortunately it is seldom permanent.

This is not normal for weight loss and I've never encountered it. See a doctor. A friend of mine suffered hair loss and it turned out to be an auto immune issue.

I just encountered this myself. I dropped the weight so fast my body had to compensate. You have to remember your hair is months behind though so stress/loss isn't from last week. get a high dose biotin (it's water soluble so you can't take too much) and collagen. It takes about 3 months to slow down but it works. My fallout started around February and I was losing it in handfulls and its slowed down these last few weeks to normal :)
