HCB's Journal, 08 August 2012

Although I was tired this morning, I knew I wanted to exercise. The spirit was willing and the body was faltering; BUT, again my spirit won! I completed my Jillian M. Circuit Training DVD and am getting SO much better at all the moves...except the dreaded plank!

And the daily gratitude list for my current challenge:

-My Buddies on FS who encourage me daily
-My resolve to "butt-kick" myself to a smaller size
-The love and support of my Dear Husband (aka DH)
-My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
-My wonderful companion animals, Bengal Cats, who are my children
-My connection to the Mother Earth and all its splendor
-My physical health

I wish there was some way to get the mind and mood to support exercise. I go thru the same thing every morning, I try to talk myself out of my morning walk but the dogs make me feel so guilty. Everytime I move they jump up with that expectant look on their faces and I have to go. Always feel better after but it is a daily struggle.

FOL - yes, it is a struggle. I also have to talk myself into it. I tell myself if I don't move it, I may lose the ability to move it someday and I really really do not want that to happen in the near future. And, conversely, I tell myself if I don't move it, I won't lose it - the weight.

Good job on getting the exercise done again. You will get better at the planks too. I know you can do it :)

Thanks, Clifford! And kimjinxie - I have not yet gotten better at planks! I say 10 seconds but I count very fast! (Probably more like 5 seconds, then I grunt and hit the floor! Fortunately, it is the last skill on the last circuit - LOL !

I really haven't been in exercise mode lately - always something else that needs doing, like cleaning the house, work, etc. I need to get back to the place where it's just something you DO, like brushing your teeth or showering daily. Once I'm doing it (actually on the treadmill or my bike), I'm so much better. So here's to taking those baby steps, like putting on my workout clothes in the morning instead of jeans, so that I have a constant reminder that I haven't worked out yet (and I can finally take them off before I shower).

FOL says it for me, too...my little dog LOVES her walk...I HAVE to go, lol...gotta say it, though...the minute I get out the door, I'm LOVIN' it...and then, some of it is what HCB says, the fear of one day not being able to...

Am so proud of you - keep up the good work!

Heidijoy...the workout clothes in the AM is a great way to keep you aware. Sometimes quite a bit of time goes by before I actually get it done, but it does increase the odds dramatically. Great work HCB. You are the picture of determination and resolve!

Congrats on the spirit winning out over the body! I started out with exercise videos as my first foray into moving and then advanced to a daily group class for about 3 years and now I've joined the gym. It's a process but, if you stick with it, it gets easier and easier. Then, somewhere along the line, it stops sucking quite so much. And, wonder of all wonders, there comes a point you start to ENJOY it and actually LOOK FORWARD to it! I know, I never believed it could happen. I thought all of those "exercise junkies" were psychotic freaks of nature! But now that I am one of those junkies, I can see that they were all just enjoying their natural endorphin highs and loving how strong their bodies felt. And take heart with the plank. I couldn't hold a plank to save my life at first. I started on my elbows and knees, then progressed to elbows and toes and then to hands and toes. I remember when 20 seconds seemed impossible. Now I can do over 3 minutes of full plank, no problem! So believe in yourself and keep doing it. It will get easier. And you WILL like it! I promise :)

Nice thankful list!! And go you getting off your butt and exercising - it's always hard to start and then when you are doing it, you think why the hell have I been avoiding this it feels great....I burn more calories avoiding exercise than I do actually doing it!!!

I love your pretty green list by the way. Thank you for the sound advice in your response to my journal content regarding my son's circumstance. You're the best!

I do love exercise - in the past I was a devotee until about age 45 or so...then I had a job change, menopause, thyroid and other various reasons (excuses) for not working out. This is when most of the weight packed on! So, I am always glad to exercise...it is often just getting started that is hard. And, like HeidiJoy, I put on my exercise clothes when I first wake up in the morning and assume I will workout!
