mars2kids's Journal, 19 July 2018

I'm finding myself tested at every turn. My kids bought the ingredients for and made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting yesterday. I didn't eat one, but we'll see if my will power holds today. I know that if I eat that cupcake it won't kill me, but right now, starting a new plan, trying to stay encouraged, and doing this plan with someone else, I don't want to eat a cupcake. I want to eat healthy foods that will fuel me and make me feel good. The feeling I get from eating a cupcake is a momentary bliss, then guilt. I've never felt guilty after eating carrots or grapes. I think I need to work on the mental part of my eating. Why do I want this or that? Why does it make me feel good or bad? If it fits into my eating plan is it worth it? How does it make me feel physically after I eat it? This will be a work in progress, probably for the long haul.

Well enough of my ramblings and cupcake ponderings for today. Have a great Thursday!!

You're right Glen. When it comes to cake or chocolate, or both, I tend to overdo it and it's better if I just don't start. :) If I could eat just a taste of a cupcake I think I'd be fine, but I know one taste leads me to eating two, then dipping into the leftover frosting. I'm learning moderation with those sinful foods, and how to make myself stop, but it's all a process.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, but going "Keto" banished cravings for me. It's been almost 2 years of holidays, vacations etc. The effect this woe has on your appetite is shocking. I normally have a terrible sweet tooth. However, I always stayed armed with Lily's chocolate (no sugar) through all the special occasions. I swear all the cocoa butter in the chocolate has made my skin creamier. Just food for thought (literally) for you. It's practically effortless, I don't journal anymore, just trust the process. 😊

That’s my problem—if I give in to a little it becomes a lot! I can’t just eat one bite or one piece. Keto was nice for me because I told myself I could not have even one bite. Maintenance has been harder because I’ve let myself eat some junk and it’s difficult to limit the amount.

I'm not a keto person. I need my carbs. Eating too much fat really does bad things to my stomach, I have lots of issues there, so I don't think it would be right for me. Also, I've looked into it, but I just can't commit, so I know I'd always feel like I was failing. I think it's great for the people who do it and it works though. My cousin does keto and she loves it.
