Day 4 of a planned 5 day fast

When I look in the mirror I feel I look thin. Except for my belly :) However, my 'love handles' are mostly gone, or 'gone enough' that all I notice is my belly. The scale has been barely moving but fat is disappearing from my body.

I'm not sure I want to go below 171, so the fact I am having such a hard time getting there (I have been 'stuck' at 180 for a month) is not upsetting me much. With clothes on I do not think I look overweight (even though my BMI says that I AM, and that I need to be 164 to be 'normal BMI').

My new 'go to' drink is: "Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder with Land O'Lakes Heavy Whipping Cream and water (300 calories - 3 carbs)". It gives me the 'sugar' hit that my brain desires, briefly makes me feel 'full' (this is NOT a good thing for me mentally because it triggers a compulsion to 'maintain the fullness'), then slowly goes away within an hour. So far I have it in the morning with coffee, and in the evening as a vanilla shake.

So, I am taking in 600+ calories a day in liquid on this 'fast'. I am NOT starving :) But, my carbs are <10 carbs a day. I fast to 'control my insulin' (see Dr. Fung: "The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss" - https://amzn.to/2sAbluO) so this helps me meet my goals.

I continue to take Hi-Lyte Electrolyte Concentrate twice a day and I have not had any lethargy, dizziness, or nausea.
178.0 lb Lost so far: 29.0 lb.    Still to go: 14.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

@mrsroboto - Thanks! (I wish I was doing as good as you! It looks like you are a few pounds away from an all-time low)

Well, I am just following your lead! 😃 Thanks for all of the fasting advice, it’s helping me so much! 😘

You are doing it! I am still on my fast, 37 hours so far and what I was thinking about yesterday when I felt hungry was a big flour tortilla quesadilla! Are our cravings like dreams, in that they can be interpreted? If yes, then I'm thinking I'm simply a big cheese ball! 😉

I think that is a neat idea, fueling your body with a good protein and fat. love handles being gone is a great thing, progress. you have built up muscles with all your exercise so it also makes sense your 171 goal may not be what is your best weight and the new more lean muscle you. I have around 30 pounds of fat to remove, but that does not mean I intend to weigh 100 pounds when I am through. most likely be in my goal range of 120 to 125. as I rebuild my muscle my body will shift. I am glad you are feeling good about your new direction

@Becc@ - I DO think about food while on a fast. For me, exercise, like a 1 hour walk at lunchtime, alleviates the 'compulsion' part of it. The thoughts are still there. This is why I usually plan what I will eat when the planned fast ends (I do this constantly in my head when fasting). But, my wife is now on Keto so the normal Pizza on Friday night will be a 'home made' pizza on low carb flat bread :) This weekend I may be able to talk my wife into ribs (no carb filled sauce!). In the past my 'reward meal' was usually a McDonald's Big Mac. I still have that in my head, but it has been pushed to August.

Wow, you are doing good. I am going to look into what you are doing.

@baskington - All of this is exactly what I was thinking. That is why I wanted to hit 171-170 and then measure my body fat with calipers and then seriously do an assessment of what I should do next. Probably also post pictures on FS. I avoid doing front photos (because they look the best - rather show the side that shows the 'fat'), but if I hit 171-170 I may finally do it.

I love “gone enough”! This is how I feel, I want to be healthy not have a 6 pack!

I think you'll do fine with keto. How about a protein burger from In-N-Out? That's what my husband gets. He's not on keto, but has cut down on bread. Maybe make it 2 protein burgers. 👍

@Becc@ - So the dear wife and I walk to in-and-out a few weeks ago to have the 'protein style'. But, after we got there, I just HAD to have the bun. This made her cave also. Knowing I can build her up, or bring her down, is why I am going to avoid any temptations for a few weeks :)

Hi, could you please let me know what plan you are following ?

Means just more details

You're a good husband. It is important to stay on plan, especially at first, until you build on the habit of eating on plan. We didn't go out to eat for a good while, when we first started eating right.

My motto is: "I eat to live, not live to eat." When I was nearly 200lbs, I was so disgusted with myself, my goal was to eat HEALTHY diet, not live to eat. I do my best to eat a nutritionally balanced diet and avoid processed foods. My big problem is simple sugars.

The main thing I've learnt from fasting is how hunger comes and goes - and the longer you fast the less it bothers you. The rumble in the stomach is just the acid and that knocking around, real hunger is in the brain. If your stomach grumbles have a drink - it soon shuts up. If you take a deep breath through your nose and you get a 'hot' burny feeling then you're thirsty not hungry.

@chintan.contractor - Currently my plan is (and things change over time) is to liquid fast (<10 carbs a day) Sunday night-Friday night. Then eat low carb (Keto) (<40 carbs a day) Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. When I started this I dropped weight like crazy, however, for the past 30 days I have been 'stuck'. However, where I am now I 'look skinny' in the mirror so I am not unhappy :)

@minitata - I agree. I think my 'walking/exercise' is just a way to give time to 'allow the feeling to pass'.

Dr Fung is so great. I love his 6 part series on Youtube. Long but so informative. WOW, i wonder how these target healthy weights are firured anyways. Only way to really know is maybe fat calipers to get a better BMI than the scale? I saw some video of Dr Berry, can't remember which one, but he is close to his goal (when i met him, he looked perfect to me LOL) , but he stalled like you too. But one pound here and there. I look forward to your reflection on the fast to see what you got out of it. I might do it in a few months. At least i'd save money on food :-) Ohh are you hungry?
