Hi there, and welcome!! I was diagnosed pre-diabetic a few years back and prescribed Metformin as well. To give it a start, I watched my carbs and calories and took the pills. (For me some side effects that still linger today... diarehea daily about an hour after my morning dose.) But it brought the A1C down from 7.4 to 5.4 which made my doctor very happy... and me too. To start out, I was eating 30 or so carbs a day, mostly from vegetables and eggs. I too live alone, so I could experiment with what foods I would eat, and which caused the most weight loss. I lost about 60 pounds to start with, then leveled out for a couple of years. In the past few days I've switched to a KETO diet which calls for lower carbs and higher fat than I was used to. I'm hoping to lose more weight and not so concerned now about my diabetes, and have my doctor's blessing to try this new way of life. You have the luxury of living alone in this, in that you can eat and try what you want without concern for others living with you! This is such a wonderful place in that everyone is so supportive and kind and full of knowledge. Tap into it all... you will find the best people here!! Good luck and say hi if you'd like to know more of what I did to get things under control!! I'm happy to share what worked out of the gate for me!!
