Johanne's Journal, 03 August 2012

I went shopping this morning for all the things I ran out of this week. I usually plan pretty well, since I only get money on the 3rd of the month, but this month I ran short. Coffee, eggs and almond milk were the things I missed the most. I also bought some really pretty stainless at Walmart. I've been living with the four-for-a-$1 kind for quite a few years now. Walmart is now carrying Pfaltzgraff Dinnerware and flatware. I figure if I buy a small set each month, I'll soon have a full set.

It got all cloudy and stormy looking this afternoon and I was really hoping it would drop a little rain, but it passed on east. The only good thing out of all of this is the grass has gone dormant and brown, so no mowing.

Saturday, a week ago, I took some mail to the neighbor who lives in the end of my house. My cat, Velcro, went with me. I didn't realize her "Boxerman" was out. The look on both of their faces as they saw each other was priceless. It would have been very funny, except Brannic took me off at the ankle with his rope and dropped me to my knees as he bounded after Velcro. I thought it was just a bad rope burn/bruise and went inside to Dr it. I washed it with peroxide, put Neosporin and a bandage on it and then the requisite ice pack to keep down the swelling.

Sunday morning I woke up in considerable pain. I wasn't able to stand on the foot. When I took the bandage off, I was in shock. It was obviously infected and really yellow and gunky. I hadn't realized the skin was broken. It just looked like a really nasty bruise. Her dogs' ropes are really filthy, so I guess I should have expected it.

I went to the urgent care in Blue Springs to get a tetanus shot, since I couldn't remember my last one. The Dr. was very concerned. It looked like I had gone longer than 24 hrs with no treatment. The funny thing is, she cleansed it with peroxide, put Neosporin on it and a bandage . . . exactly what I had done in the first place. But then, she put me on a really nasty antibiotic. Ten pills were $182! Thank goodness for Medicare and Medicaid. And, of course, I got the tetanus shot.

The problem is, the wound IS healing, but very slowly and it still hurts like hell, especially when I've been asleep and try to stand down on that foot. It's going to leave a nasty scar.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL!

I'm off to put the big pot of chili I made into 1 cup portions for the freezer, eat dinner and go to bed early. Goodnight all my dear friends.

That does sound nasty, i hope the anitboitics work. Love the name of your cat, Velcro.

Their ropes ARE pretty nasty. She has three large house dogs that she ties on ropes, right at her door, to go do their business. The area in the circumference of the ropes is bare dirt and dog waste. The ropes are covered in it, albeit dry. Thanks for dropping in!

Ewwww - that does sound like a nasty environment for a fall and rope burn. I was worried about Velcro getting away from the dog!

FOL, I named him "Darcy" because he was the most elegant, perfect, snowshoe Siamese kitten. Within a week, being unable to detach him from my person, his name became Velcro. He's one of the most beautiful cats I've ever owned, now weighs 20 lbs, and I STILL can't detach him. He is draped over my arms and Keyboard as I write. LOL! It makes all of my activities an adventure! Cat physics baffle me. I have an 8 lb, flame point Siamese who, when she jumps on me, lands like a ton of bricks. And then, I have 20 lb Velcro, who can come straight off any surface at me (it's kind of scary) and land like a feather. By the way, neither of these cats is "purebred." They're just gorgeous, perfect freaks of nature. :-)

The cats and the local squirrels are very aware of just where the ropes stop. LOL! I must say, though, I'd never seen Velcro skedaddle so fast. LOL!

Oh - both your cats sound lovely. I am a huge cat fan and own two Bengals. They are wonderful, inquisitive and affectionate guys, too.

Oh, gosh, it's a good thing the doctor took care of you. Take care of yourself! I guess you can be thankful (per your challenge) that it was caught before it got any worse.
