A break even for last week. I’ll call it a win ;) Well I lost less than half a pound so that’s break even to me. I also had things like a 3 cheese chicken quesadilla, smoothie, snickers for lunch etc. I haven’t been allowing those things much and some not at all. I also didn’t log things like when I tried each of the smoothies I made yesterday and froze for later. 844 cal for 6 of them and I had less than 1/2 a tsp of each to taste and see if it was a good combo or needed something else. I’ve been slacking on eating fruit because of the sugar content so these are all fruit. Once these are gone I’ll have to try some with veggies. I just don’t think raw broccoli will mix well in a smoothie lol. Perhaps I can put things I hate in there like asparagus and mushrooms so I get the nutrients but banana can cover up the flavors ;). Tip: if you’ve never tried watermelon in s smoothie it’s awesome but does make it a bit too sweet. Any that needed sugar I just added a bit of watermelon to and now it’s sweet.

any type of vegetable or fruit is better than eating junk food. If you need healthy smoothie recipes you should look some up on line, there are a lot of good ones. I just don't want to work that hard. Hats off if that is what you want to do. my son puts kale in his smoothies but I don't know what else he puts in it. he says the mix covers the taste of the kale. which I find nasty and he just does all natural too

I dislike beets immensely lol. BUT if the farmers market has any I’ll give it a try... one lol. Would I need to cook it first? We’ve grown beets for family and they aren’t exactly soft when raw. That’s why I didn’t try any veggies yet. As for recipes I have looked. But I’m not big on things like almond milk, adding sugar etc. I’d prefer just fruits and veggies and perhaps some protein powder. I do have Splenda if I could find out how much to substitute for sugar. The ones I made don’t need sugar though. Veggies ones may. A friend adds kale to hers. I’m thinking it would be stringy whereas I like mine icey and smooth or creamy and smooth(but don’t want the added calories from milk or cream).

what does your friend put in hers??

I mean besides the kale, most do use coconut milk or plain no frills voqurt for the base.

Smoothies are great for a quick meal. I use whatever's in the refrigerator for mine but my favorite veggie for smoothies is spinach but any leafy veg will work. I also like berries. I use plain unsweetened almond milk or water and egg protien powder. Sometimes a little plain greek yogurt (full fat, not lowfat or no-fat because those are thickened with corn starch or other carb heavy thickeners). If you add some vanilla and/or fruit to your smoothies you probably won't be able to taste those veggies you don't like. Cocoa power (unsweetened) and a bit of stevia added to any smoothie is great if you are a chocolate lover. Stevia is my go to sweetener. I keep mine in a 'marked' salt shaker and just sprinkle, taste, and sprinkle a bit more if needed. I like using frozen fruit or I add a couple ice cubes to my smoothies and blend them in the blender too.

@baskinton she said she uses Greek yogurt for the ‘base’ but I dislike its strong flavor. She also said she freezes her fruit and occasionally adds a bit of water rather than the yogurt. Kale & spinach are the only two veggies she has mentioned. All the rest are fruit.

@blue I bought some protein powder the other day. I plan to add some in before or after a workout and see what it’s like. My friend is big on berries in her smoothies. She has her own in her garden. I like carrots corn sweet potatoes broccoli green beans potatoes and cauliflower. The sweet potatoes and carrots would be good but high in carbs I think. Broccoli is being linked with a lowered risk of cancer and even fighting cancer naturally to an extent. So I eat it several times a week if I can get to the store (20 minutes away) and if they have any in stock. I just don’t think it would smooth out well. Splenda is my go to sweetener. It’s the only one I’ve tried that I like. Haven’t tried stevia though.

I am lazy so I get the frozen steamer bags of cauliflower and broccoli flowerettes and just cook up the whole bag. I pull out whatever I think I will eat for the day and put the rest in the fridge for the next day. snack on the portions during the day by melting a little butter on the veggies. I am one of those that enjoy the brussel sprouts so I do the same with them. they are a little higher in carbs

I steam mine on the stovetop. A handful of broccoli will be done by the time I finish making the kids’ plates. If I’m doing a large batch for the whole family (they prefer raw) I will make sure the small amount of water is hot first and cut up all meat while I wait. I haven’t tried the steamer bags yet but I have one of rice and another of corn strictly for portion control if I need it. And the corn should be healthier than canned corn.

Broccoli is always included somehow in at least one of my meals every day. My hubby won't watch me drink my green smoothies. He hates broccoli and spinach. I love them both. I use stevia because those articicial sweeteners give me migraine headaches. Just a little fruit goes a long way. I never thought of sweet potato in a smoothie. It's carbs but a little might be reasonable. Vitamin C, A, fiber and so forth.

Asked my friend and she said a typical smoothie for her is fruit, juice, yogurt, kale and ground flax seed. Fruit depends on her garden, yogurt and juice are ‘light’. I could eat broccoli daily too! I did for weeks, snacks and dinner. Got burnt out so took a week to so off then found myself craving it again. Sweet potato is supposed to be healthier than regular. When making baby food I’d add a bit to any of the greens the kids didn’t like. I had to hide the color as they wouldn’t eat it if they got a good look (green and orange make a liquidy brown color haha), but they liked the favors. Had to go easy on fruit as they each started refusing veggies if I gave them more than one thing of fruit baby food. Youngest loved puréed chicken and turkey lol. Nasty looking stuff but hey, she got some protein!
