Kenna Morton's Journal, 23 June 2018

There is a “young?”” Lady posting about not eating, passing out all the time, wanting more powerful laxatives than she is already using and she is 5’8” and 105 lb and thinks she is fat and is in despair. People are cheering her on in her weight loss journey, giving her laxative suggestions—- blah, blah blah. Do most of you actually read what she is writing or are you so focused on loose weight, loose weight that you don’t see that this person has a very serious problem. This is an issue
which is way beyond any of us here.
Careful when you give out advice—

I took some advice and edited my post but my concern for this person is real.

The advice I gave was to drink water and eat more vegetables. Yes, it's concerning to see someone doing something harmful, but I've learned, as a parent with grown children, that all I can do is offer suggestions that are the healthiest and hope that they will choose that route.

Thanks for brining this up, Kenna. I read the post and her file and was horrified that others were telling her to just keep working at it. Wow. I believe that number one, you are hoping she gets the help she truly needs and two, reminding people to look at a profile before they comment. Both are responsible and worthy thoughts. Thank you!

Your concern may be real, but BECAUSE of this post the damage you do to this girl is also real. TBH, if you really care , reach out to her personally, don't air out her personal concerns and your speculations about her body here. If you are concerned...if you are caring and kind...if you are coming from a place of love.. then you would not be creating this post where people can talk about her. This only creates hurt and embarrassment when she finds it. THINK about that. You say that you understand that this is something harmful to that girl's self esteem but are posting anyway? Creating what is akin to a gossip forum anyway? You don't know her life, or her story. Think about the impact of your decisions. This isn't about being right, but being noble and kind. Take this down. Reach out to her if that makes you feel better, but whatever she does, is Her. Own. Personal. Journey. You are not her mom, her therapist, and not a friend ( b/c a friend would never do this to someone) Take this down.

Sailor get off your high horse she is trying to help in her own way just because you don’t agree doesn’t give you the right to blast her. your being the bully here

I love how the one person standing up for the poor girl is the bully in your twisted little mind 😳

Kenna - I think you are quite right to warn FS members not to give this anorexic lady laxative advice and cheering on her unnecessary weight loss. I've seen this sort of thing on here before and I have, in the past, reported the anorexic to the administrators of this site who have quite rightly removed the person from here. This is not the right site for them and they could encourage very young girls to follow their example which is, of course, very damaging. I did not see this particular lady's post so I'm unable to report her.

My twisted little mind speaks from experience, I have seen this in real life and it doesn’t always end well, I don’t need to know her story to know a 17 year old child with these warning signs should be given sound advice from adults she may get something out of it.

I agree that we need to be careful when we give out advice and read a little about people before commenting on their posts. Thanks for the reminder.
