Sandy701's Journal, 01 August 2012

No exercise walking for me this morning...big thunderstorms! This time, I couldn't even get started before they came through. Now, of course, it's cleared up and the sun is out. But, I've just had breakfast (so have the dogs) and I'm getting some chores done before I head off to work at the thrift store. I get LOTS of walking in when I'm there, but I feel that's just a bonus and not dedicated exercise.

So, for this morning, I'm working on a few things in advance of our vacation/trip next week. There are a million details, as all of you know, but isn't it funny how my DH can just go into "vacation prep" mode for a few hours and believe that's all there is to it? AARRGGHH! Reminds me of when I went off to college. My mom had worked long and hard for weeks to make sure I was prepared and had everything I needed. When we arrived at the dorm, my dad said, "Well? Do you have everything? Do you need anything?" My mom just shook her head!!! If it were only that easy!

As of today, I'm on Maintenance....for real. July netted me 2 pounds lost, 1 of which put me at my goal. To recap the last couple months, my averages have been:

April Lost 2 pounds 1445 calories 39.41 TOTAL carbs
May Lost 4 pounds 1336 calories 38.60 TC
June Lost 3 pounds 1321 calories 43.39 TC
July Lost 2 pounds 1307 calories 46.57 TC

Mid-April is when I made an adjustment to reduce my caloric average from the 1400's to 1300. I've made a note to myself that to lose weight at my current weight, it might be best to keep calories at about 1300 and TOTAL carbs below 40. Keeping TC under 45 will work, but the losses are less. I need to keep these items in mind when I find myself trending upward within that 5-pound fluctuation zone.

And....for any newbie reading this journal, these are adjustments that are NOT appropriate for Induction or early-OWL folks! These adjustments have come after 2 years of being low-carb.

You have such willpower to keep those calories that low for such a stretch! Maintenance should be a real treat for you.

I am always in awe when I peek at your numbers, doesn't matter which numbers, they are all impressive; pounds lost, calories, carbs, miles, etc. What are you going to try first for maintenance?

Buffy, those are averages, so there are days.... :) I have to say that for the ENTIRE Atkins journey, I've always experienced a bit of hunger. Not gut-wrenching, but almost always still there to some degree. Maybe I just love food - LOL! I've really not experienced the "no hunger" that is supposed to be so characteristic of Atkins, or low-carb. I have to be careful I don't go overboard trying out different foods now, as I easily could!!!

Bren I appreciate the compliment, but I could say the same thing about you....wish I had your easy-going nature and your artistic flair.

GG....no idea what will get tried first. So far, I've just been going back and having a bit more of what I already know is generally OK. Like the strawberry smoothies. Generally, they're OK but if I really want to lose, I didn't use them much because they seemed to put a halt to any losses....don't know if it was the almond milk or the carb load of the strawberries or what. I probably won't try out anything truly new until after vacation and any remedial work I need to do afterward - hopefully not too much, as I'm planning on staying right on plan except for 1 pizza.

You are an inspiration, so dedicated and self-controlled. The "no hunger" experience on Atkins I've also had, but since trying to change to low-glycemic carb food I honestly don't have the hunger pains.

Well Notfast, glad to hear that works for you. I thought most of what one eats on Atkins is relatively low glycemic, but perhaps it can go even lower to reduce hunger.

Wow...congratulations, my friend...you have done an amazing job with your lifestyle change. Have a great rest of your week, my friend. Sure wish we could have some of that rain!

Stef, I can send rain, but you'll have to take some of this darn humidity too!!!
