I weigh after, taking care to ensure that the item in FS does offers a weight after cooking.

You always want to weigh meat/fish in its raw state.

Due to water content & meat, chicken shrinks after cooking. So example, if the raw facts for pork are 100g for 200cal (random example) & you cook it, and it weighs 75g, the nutritional content will be more if using just the cooked weight, since it will be the raw nutritional content. So weigh raw, use raw nutritional profile. Alternatively, if you can’t/don’t/unable to you can use this math with the already cooked weight & use the foods raw nutrition to get an estimate value. Weighing Well-Done Meat Examples: Hockey-puck hamburger or Vacanti-dry chicken breast When weighing (cooked) well-done meat, multiply the weight by 1.5 and use the meat’s raw nutrition facts Weighing Rare Meat Examples: Seared ahi tuna or Pittsburgh rare steak. When weighing (cooked) rare meat, multiply the weight by 1.1 and use the meat’s raw nutrition facts.

I weigh raw if I buy it raw, but I buy roasted chickens and of course have to weigh them cooked.

I weigh both, before and after it's cooked, but I input after it's cooked. The HCG diet recommends to weigh food before it is cooked, however I disagree with that. Peel & Eat Shrimp weigh a lot less after they have been peeled.

@jlemke, Measure Both, you want to ensure your within your nutritional guidelines.....When measuring to start ---if in a bowl, or paper plate, paper towel, or plate, cup etc. ----> you must first weigh the item it is on or in ......then 'tare' or zero it , step 2 is then to measure the item with the food content in it......this will provide you accurate beginning weight. You can then measure afterwards if you like..... When cooking however, the water moisture and other preservatives can be cooked off (or out)...causing the item to shrink or lose weight content. This is okay because it allows a bit of wiggle room within your overall daily caloric intake...... Hope this help !!!! Good luck .......
