SoCalPam's Journal, 19 June 2018

I've been thinking about it for awhile and finally dug into my hard-to-reach cabinet and found my old food scale. It still works! It's so old that it's not even digital, but it's fine for my needs. I've been guess-timating for too long and I was starting to worry that I was erring on the side of too much rather than too little. I took a guess at my portions tonight for dinner and came in pretty close to the scale's reading so I guess I've been doing okay. It's nice to get a clear picture of the amount I'm eating and to know I match up with the amounts listed on this site.

My friend says I’m obsessive but I weigh every morsel when at home and usually when visiting family who don’t mind when I do. I’ve learned to bring my scale and measuring cups lol. I am not good at estimating and would probably underestimate subconsciously so I could have an extra treat :/. Glad you found that you were close in your estimates!

I was kind of surprised! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one "weighing in" on weight loss. I'm not trying to be fanatical, but I also know myself and how easy it is to say, "Well, just one more..." Weighing my food teaches me the proper portion size. I guess all the weighing I did before sank into my unconscious as I really am doing pretty well. The big test will be butter.

I’m the same on the ‘just one more’! Especially with junk food and cheese. With cheese and butter I never guess. I attempted it a few times then measured and found I logged half the cheese and butter I had put on my plate. Now I buy stick butter only and use half a Tbsp based on the markings. No matter what I eat I can only have that 1/2 Tbsp lol. I’m decent at portions for some items. That’s what some of our family doesn’t understand. Even if I never reach my goal weight and go to maintaining my weight I won’t quit my diet until portion sizes are firmly ingrained in me. Most of the veggies I eat (I’m picky ) and things like chicken are becoming easier. I can usually guess approximate cups but I’m horrible on weights of things like a burger or steak. And if I’m honest I have an obsessive personality and obsessing about making good food choices and portion sizes is a good thing to imbedded about for me lol.
