LSG417's Journal, 16 June 2018

Yesterday was a rough day, so I indulged in a glass of wine last night. Problem was, I chose to indulge in a second glass which led to me not caring about what I put in my mouth for food. Hubby went and got pizza since I hate cooking on Fridays. Instead of sticking to one slice and making myself a salad, I had two slices and four hot wings. That second slice had me feeling like crap by bedtime. I was afraid to step on the scale since overloading on carbs tends to make me retain more water. Somehow the scale was down several ounces this morning. Maybe two days worth of brussel sprouts causing my bowels to finally move counteracted the water. Who knows. I'm just tired of having to think so much about food. I want to be in maintenance mode. Not sure if doing IF is going to be for me. Still haven't decided. Just so much mental effort and I just want to eat healthy foods and live my life. I have enough stuff that I have to think about with a difficult teenager to deal with, along with life in general. Time to help my mental state and get a workout in today before fixing a meal, likely brunch or lunch at this point. Hope everyone has a great Saturday.

We had pizza last night, too, the take-and-bake pepperoni one from Costco. It's the first time I've eaten pizza since starting on MFS. This site gives a calorie amount for that same pizza in 12 pieces, but I cut 8 so I had to do math, LOL! I ate 1.5 slices, which kept me in the zone. We were out of wine (horrors!) so I did not indulge, although I really wanted to. This morning I'm up an ounce! And I ate very few calories during the day, coming in way under my RDI -- even with the pizza. I really think bread is like a very sticky dense glue that binds me. I just can't do it, not even once a week, at least, while I'm starting this journey. It's not worth it!

I totally understand. Even in maintenance mode, when I have a glass of wine it seems like I am always up on the scale the next day. Like a slap on the hand.

O understand "difficult teenager" as shorthand for "AAARRRGGHHHH!" It's enough to drive you to drink *and* eat! (That was partly responsible for my 100-lb weight gain in the late '80s and early '90s.) Sometimes, "taking care of ourselves" seems to be one more demand in an already-overburdened mind and heart.

LOL ... Call it a "Keto Carb Up Day" and enjoy the benefit ... then jump back on the wagon ;-)

I have 3 teenage girls and I’m currently on a diet and not drinking wine!!😂😂😂. I hear you!!!

3 girls???!! I'd never survive! 2 boys are bad enough! Actually, the one does it all himself. I have to allow calories for wine some days, lol.

I love pizza. Many years ago I came across a great idea in a magazine. I use a 6 inch pita round as the crust. I have a pizza sauce recipe that is the best. I make up a batch, portion it in larger size silicone ice cube trays and freeze. Each cube is enough for one pita. Defrost one, slather it on the pita round, add thinly sliced onion, red and green peppers., rinse and slice a few black olives, and top with mozzarella cheese. It is now one of my friends and families favorite meals. Totally satisfies the pizza crave and you have automatic portion control. It makes a great thing to make with any group of people— a pizza bar with a variety of topping choices.

Most of the year we actually have 4 teenage girls bc we often host an exchange student! Funny thing is - the exchange students are never crabby. Makes me think it is easily controlled when living in someone else’s home... One of my daughters recently said to me regarding the lack of high fat snacks in our home “Why do the rest of us have to suffer bc you have no will power?”😂. Because that’s what families do, dear 😉

Thank you! You all made me feel so much better. Even thou I am new to Keto, still learning as I go. Yesterday was a great day, eating wise until we went out (community event) usually they have simply hot dog/burger with fixings (good to make a salad from) Well, surprise! They had pizza instead I felt so bummed about it, even this morning... until now. I am not the only one who had pizza! Yay!!

LSG417, I think that was God patting you on the shoulder. I used intermittent fasting for two weeks to break the 140 barrier but in the long run, it did not work for keeping my diverticulosis in control. Maybe try doing it only a few days a week? You will figure it out.

Try to be better today ?

Wishing you a better day !!! Try to clear your mind of problems, take some time for yourself, whether it be working out, destressing in bath, tanning, or something else. Don't let stress derail you and pour cortisol into your body.....been there for a few weeks now with realty foolishness. I'm hating everything at the moment..... I'm cheering for ya... ;D

Sunshinetryde: it's okay to have a slice of pizza now and then. The meal before and the meal after need to be on track, that's all. It's when we eat the slice and think... well, there's more so I'll have another. And I like soda/beer/wine with pizza, and one won't hurt... Then we're in the food coma zone where the dessert menu comes around (or, like me, you remember where you put the leftover Christmas candy in the freezer), and all the barriers come down. Then you wake up in the morning and it's like an immediate reversion to old habits and you think, "HOW DID I GET HERE???" At least for me.

Look at your progress. 🤓 You're doing great! The road can be steep at the end. Be easy on yourself. IF? I just put off eating my break-fast as late as possible. Keep on keepin on. ❤

Weight lose is a journey and everyone approaches it in a different way. Don't beat yourself up. I cannot do IF or any other type of fasting diets due to health issues and medications. I have been down this path many times and have found that a balance of foods works well for me with an emphasis on natural, organic, and no preservatives. Give yourself permission to have a "cheat meal" once a week without overdoing the calories. I've also found that alcohol is a trigger for me and will always lead to overeating. Don't know if this will help; but just want you to know that you have come a long way and are so close to your goal. Keep it up!

Thanks y'all! If I had made my own pizza like I used to, it wouldn't have been so bad. If I had stuck to one slice, it wouldn't have been so bad. Too much wine dulls the sensibilities, lol. Murph, I don't quite see the correlation between wine & pizza and ice cream, lol. Teenagers are of the devil, lol. I suppose it's pay back for what I put my folks through, tho I was never quite this bad. I had a really good workout this morning, helped with the stress and I didn't eat my first meal until 1:30pm, so sort of did IF without meaning to. Going to have a salad for supper this evening. May even have a glass of wine, will just make sure to eat first this time, lol!
