3lbs a week gain. Thats not good. Time to slow down the cals and increase cardio.

thanks man. yeah i've learned so much in the past couple weeks, especially what i had been doing wrong. i can see major newbie gains and i'm loving the journey so far. so glad i found this site. it was the foundation i needed and continues to be a great companion tool for me. hopefully i can keep it up.

What would be the ideal weight gain if you're in caloric surplus? I was on surplus for 4 months (mid-jan to mid-may), and from 145 lbs I climbed to 155. I feel that I'm progressing really slow, so I'm not sure if I'm eating enough. I'm averaging between 2300-2600 calories a day (slow bulk), and can only dedicate 3 times/week of lifting. I have type2 diabetes so I always watch the type and amount of carbs I eat. I wanna do better next season of bulking so appreciate any advice I can get but for now I switched to cut for the summer.

From online sources and friends, they say its 1lb per week. If more, then its likely fat. Thats kinda hard to do in my opinion, considering 70% of cals u eat r carbs and fat. So i dont mind gaining 2-3lbs per week and trim down to 155 once i reach 160 or so. I take 2-3days rest between progressive free weight lift days. None lift days i stay in the pool to try trim down the fat. Abs everyday. I also 16/8 fast daily and trying to take down 3000cal/day. Im currently 5’8 149lbs at approx 17% fat.

@ThienN Thanks man for the insight. I'll keep that in mind. I'm also 5'8" currently at 149 lbs. BMI scale says I'm at 10.5% body fat, but those scales are off by 4-5%, so in reality I'm approximately 15-16% fat. Honestly I don't want to go down below 150lbs, but this fat under the layer of skin in the tummy area is so hard to remove unless I lean down.

I know what you mean. That unwanted spare tire is persistent af. But ive accepted it as part of the process if i want to bulk up to at least 155-160. I tried to get rid of the belly fat in april and managed to do it, barely, and got from 147 to 140lbs. Pretty sure i lost more than just the spare tire. Not doing that again until i have a few lbs to spare above my desired weight.
