Katsolo's Journal, 04 June 2018

Been slipping on the journal entries. I blame the weekend. focusing on fitness for the moment. eating is pretty stable. this weekend, i seriously upped my yardage in my non-movement pool. which is hard to understand, but basically, i’m putting together sets based on the number of strokes and intensity. doing sets of 100 and 200 strokes against higher and lower current speeds respectively. i figure if i’m gasping for air at the end of each set, i’m doing a good job. i can also hold my breath for 45 seconds again. working my way back up to a minute, which was two lengths of a 25m pool when i was young and in shape.

the watch does not do a great job counting strokes, I know this because i'm basing my progress on sets of strokes with breaths. meaning 20 sets of 5 strokes and a breath on the 5th count equals 100 strokes. i can get 700 or more strokes in a thirty minute session.

Also going to try and build in some interval type exercises to make an HIIT workout and then vary the workouts. Finally, since i used to have a pretty good time in the 500, i need to figure out how to build up to that. I think in practice we got 12 minutes, but not sure. Races were usually well under 10 minutes, but i'm going off memory, not records, I want to say 8 minutes. I googled current times by Katie Ledecky, 4:26. Yeah, nope. Not going to happen in my pool unless it's the current tossing me against the back wall repeatedly. Maybe I'll set a timer for 10 minutes and see how many strokes I get in there. I know at speed, I could do a 25m length in ten strokes, but that would have had adrenaline and a starting block or wall start.

One more note here. My best event was always backstroke and I cannot get it together in against the current. I'm either unstable, or i hit my hands on the metal which really hurts. Going to see if i can find some videos. frustrated on this one.

Finally, is it weird that i do not like getting in a pool without a cap ever??? not even for the jacuzzi stuff. this is not going to change, i'm just curious. Those specs are my amazon $7 specials so i don't ruin my good ones. they're not bad, but the instructions say not to wear them while driving??? that is funny.
