The weight drop is actually better than it shows on paper as I didn't record my weight anywhere the previous week.

Does anyone else feel like people in their lives try to sabotage any diet plans, whether knowingly or unknowingly? I had a family member stay with us for 8 days (went home after Memorial day). I stayed good the first couple of days (this person is diabetic, so supplemented their meals at home with fresh baked bread and other items like that, so not too bad of a temptation for me). However, that Thursday we took a day trip to Sedona and I was fine for lunch and even abstained from ice cream at Black Cow Cafe (it's homemade there and is really good when I have had it in the past), but broke down when we stopped at the local fudge shoppe and I had 1/4 of a 1/2 slice of Panuche after it was purchased (by the visiting family member). My calories were still fine for the day from the moderation of the other meals, but I knew I had thrown myself out of ketosis. That Saturday, took the family member out to a late lunch/early dinner at this Mexican restaurant that is known for having a beautiful pond-side view. I limited the amount of chips I ate and maintained a healthy portion size (already knew I was out of ketosis) in order to keep my calories down at least. I did not get dessert. Later that night though, our visitor went to the grocery store, bought some very good ice cream (including cookie dough ice cream, which is my favorite ice cream and I am the only one in the house that even likes it), hot fudge, salted caramel topping (my favorite again) and real whipped cream. I could not resist and that damn half-gallon of cookie dough ice cream only lasted 2 nights.

There is a reason I cannot have this stuff in my house. I successfully quit smoking years ago and I was able to do that by abstaining from friends (mostly co-workers) that smoked and places that would contribute to the ease of smoking, such as smoke break, bars, and concerts. After a while, I was able to be in those situations without having the urge to smoke. I can't do that with food. I can't avoid it completely and I am still too early in the process to have those kinds of temptations in the house. The good news is, as soon as that half-gallon of ice cream was gone, I was done even thought the other flavors that were purchased were still here. Went back to keto eating the next day.

The ironic part is, our guest was raving about her blood sugar levels while she was visiting and attributing it to our diet (she did have to calculate carbs to make sure she was getting enough, but we supplemented her with other items) and wanted to start eating like that when she got back home. I ended up gaining 4.5 pounds that week and dropped all of it plus a little more the following week by going back to keto and am already back in ketosis. Based on the very quick gain and loss, I think that some of that was water gain/loss.

My wife can no longer do keto with me for reasons that just popped up last week (she is not considered overweight), but is still fully supportive and is fully committed to healthy eating. Last night, we made pork al pastor tacos. My shell was made from cheese (she found a keto-friendly taco shell recipe) and her taco shells were organic corn. I just had tomatillo salsa on my tacos and they were delicious. I didn't miss the real tortillas at all.

Also found that a little smear of freshly made cashew butter (no additives or added sugar) on a piece of dark chocolate (78% cacao) tastes about as good as a peanut butter cup without eating up a lot of net carbs. Helps to keep the dessert cravings down.

I apologize for the long post, but I did not have time with the house guest to get my thoughts down last week. Thanks for everyone's support! It definitely helps to keep me in check and to know that falling off the horse doesn't mean I have to let all of the previous hard work stay in the mud. Have a good week!

I might have to try the trick with cashew butter and dark chocolate!! I totally understand about the sabotaging, we went to Tulsa this weekend to pick up a puppy with my brother and mom and she bought me a Mint Oreo Candy Bar, and I wanted to kill her! She said "one wont hurt" and I gave it to my husband.

People are so clueless sometimes! And that just makes everything so much harder. I have the same issues. I needed space from ppl that smoked when I first quit and it's no different with food. I just hope that EVentually I'll get to a place in my journey where I can sit with everyone on thanks giving and not eat 90% of the food on the buffet :/

Hey, nice drop!! I am finding that even with zero sabotage, i have trouble if my environment or routine changes. It is a learning (and unlearning) process! You are doing amazeballs! Keep it up!

It is very common to have "well meaning" family members saying "one bite won't hurt", "its a special occasion". I call them friendly enemies. Some family members may want you to remain the way you are for any number of reasons. House guests are on vacation and they want to ParTayyy" and want you to join in. When I have family members trying to pressure me into doing something I usually react by doing the opposite. I don't like people trying to convince me to do something. I'm glad you have a supportive wife, that is all that really matters. Good luck and stay the course, that is what matters in the long run.
