Still motivated, and also recognizing that losing weight to my desired weight (150) is going to be a LIFE LONG JOURNEY not just a one and done. From June 2015 to May 2018 I gained 32 pounds by "stress eating" mostly late at night.

I have a friend and her son visiting who are also in weight losing mode and that helps motivate me. I am actually eating 3 meals a day and maybe one very low calorie snack in the evening, trying to keep calories about 1200-1500 and diet balanced with fruits and veggies.

CARNATION INSTANT BREAKFAST now has a LIGHT (60 cal) packet, and I can make a smoothie out of that, a cup of non fat dry milk, and a banana, water and some ice in the blender. Tastes nice and very low calorie.

Also making STEEL CUT OATS which I have a cup of cooked, along with a small pat of butter and a BIT of butter and brown sugar, and a half cup of milk and maybe a chopped apple.. The texture of the steel cut oats is nice, not slimy like rolled oats and the oats help with collesteral as well. also are crunchy. The SLOW digesting of them helps keep your blood sugar upand you don't feel so hungry so quickly. I make enough for 4-5 days (they are slow to cook like brown rice and I cook them in my rice cooker) then refrigerate and only have to cook them 1 or 2 times a week.

The carbs in oatmeal, even plain, spike my blood sugar like nobody's business. With brown sugar, milk, and apple, the carb load is just outta sight! I find "Instant Breakfast" and other "meal replacement" products very unsatisfying. They just run right through your digestive system. The banana and brown rice are loaded with carbohydrate, too, and drinking a "shake" is not like eating real food. The real problem is that all these carbohydrates trigger higher and highier insulin levels -- the hormone that helps the body process *and* store their "energy load" as fat. (I remember my mother having cans of "Metrecal" -- the precursor to SliimFast -- in the fridge. Never helped her lose weight either.)

Oxdrover, I see from your profile that you're a nurse and diabetic educator. Just a suggestion: Take a look at the material at DietDoctor.com for information on managing weight and blood sugar and controlling/reversing diabetes while lowering (and even eliminating) anti-hyperglycemic medications. Even if a person isn't diabetic, the insulin load triggered by carb consumption triggers weight retention and weight gain. My average BS has dropped 90 mg/dL since beginning a LCHF/ketogenic program on 05/06/2018.
