I was so excited to find some red and juicy ripe organic strawberries and some fuzzy sweet organic peaches in the grocery store this week at reasonable prices. Because I live in the desert, there isn't much about summer that I look forward to, but berries, melons and peaches are definitely on that short list. I chopped some up and put them on my husband's oatmeal, along with some sliced almonds and cinnamon. Then I mixed some into my low-fat cottage cheese along with a teaspoon of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon (good for the blood sugar). It was delicious. Usually when I want to sweeten my fruit a little I reach for a little green packet of stevia raw, but now and then I use a teaspoon of honey instead. When I eat real food I don't feel like I'm dieting...and that keeps me from feeling deprived. That idea that I'm not allowed to eat something somehow makes me want it more than anything. As an example, I rarely eat cheesecake. I love it, but I don't think about buying it or making it very often. If I was to tell myself that I can't eat it because it is too fattening, I would almost immediately start thinking of nothing else. Does this happen to anyone else? So basically for me, no food is off limits and no food is bad. Another trap I used to fall into was the "I really want a donut but I shouldn't eat it so I will eat something else that is sweet that I can have, like a banana." So I ate the banana. Still wanted the donut. So then I ate some toast and jam. Still wanted the donut. A little frozen yogurt. Donut. Then, I just ate the damn donut! How many calories did I eat trying to avoid the donut which I ended up eating anyway? A LOT!! Stupid, wasn't it? So now, if I have a craving, I eat some of what I am craving. I don't get nervous that I won't stop. That only happens to me when I tell myself that this is the last time I'm ever going to eat this food. I don't do that anymore.
Whew! I'm very long winded today. Enjoy the fruits of the season, and if you want a donut, give yourself permission to eat and enjoy it. Good day to all. :)

YES! That totally happens to me too! I've done that exact same "donut dance" many times... eat healthy stuff to avoid eating the thing you're craving and you end up either eating more cals and feeling unsatisfied or else you eat more and still end up eating the donut! As for the cheesecake; I completely relate to that. Cheesecake, ice-cream, regular cakes, cookies I can live without but when I start thinking I'm FORBIDDEN to have them, well then I want them all the more! Nail on head. You hit it. :-)

Ditto for me too. I've gone into this "diet" (I like to think of it as changing my way of eating) by telling me nothing is off limits. If I want to eat it, great, but I won't be eating a lot that day and I know I'll be a bear.... seems to be working. But then again, I'm only 3 weeks into this thing! Good luck!

I agree that if you want the donut have the donut. When I first started changing my diet my family would go out to eat and I would stubbornly refuse to have anything to do with it. Once we got home however and I saw them eating those use to be yummy fries in front of me I knew I had to have some. So I did. 10 of them....lol I don't have the urge for the junk now but if I did I would eat them. Life is to short to say, man I wish I could have.... or had.... like Nike says Just do it! This is a fantastic website with low-carb recipes. http://yourlighterside.com/ She even has several cheesecake recipes. I hope one of them works with your diet.

Same for me! If I say I can't have something I obsess over it and then eat waaay too much of it (like I want some ice cream, tell myself I can't have it then eat a whole pint...ugh), so I just don't eat much of it and not very often. I just found the website skinnytaste.com and it has some GREAT recipes. All are weight watchers approved (I'm not doing WW, but figure if they are WW approved, they must be pretty good for you). I made the black bean burgers last night...Yum!
