Yesterday marked my one-year anniversary since my last cigarette.
It was amazingly easy, considering I smoked for decades. It took two days to switch from cigarettes to e-cigs (water vapor!) with low nicotine (8 mg). In fact, a whole carton of cigarettes underwent a somewhat pagan ritual of shredding before being thrown away. Within one month, I was down to NO nicotine and switched to food-grade vegetable glycerine with food-grade flavoring (the stuff that's in cakes).
My favorite flavor was double chocolate brownie mixed with Wilton's vegetable glycerine and distilled water, which turned out to be an added benefit since I'm diabetic and shouldn't eat brownies. I soon discovered cinnamon roll and chocolate peppermint... oh, and caramel macchiato. (I found it easier to get completely away from flavors associated with tobacco and menthol.)
No patches, no pills, no withdrawals, and especially significant is there was no anticipated weight gain after quitting.
I wish this process of weight loss and a healthier lifestyle were as simple. Imagine this: two days to get used to adapting to better food choices and a month to reach your ideal weight (with no patches, pills, or withdrawals)! If only... in an ideal world, huh?
Like my husband says, "It took years to gain the weight. It will just take time to take it off." This is the mantra I repeat in my head whenever I get discouraged.
I hope you are all finding your personal milestones and mantras to keep on you track. If not, I guess I can consider renting out my husband, but only if you promise to return him!
