My special needs daughter called today to tell me she had to go to jail for 30 days for not showing up for jury duty (supposedly, her summons was lost in the mail) or pay a fine of $500. When she called the number given to make arrangements for when to show up for jail, she found it was a hoax and she was supposed to send it on to four of her friends. One of her "friends" had sent it to her. She was panicking, not knowing who would watch her 3 children while she was in jail, had called us all to let us know what was going on, etc. All I can say is, with friends like that, who needs enemies?
My friend Ed took me to Applebee's for lunch, and, instead of being sensible, I had 1/2 appetizer, meal and full dessert. I am SO SICK! I can't eat gluten and I did it anyway. I deserve whatever I get!
It's so funny. Ed is a die hard Republican/Tea Party-er. I'm a born "my father would turn over in his grave if I wasn't", fairly liberal Democrat. How the two of us get along, I have no idea. He used to be my case worker before he retired a few years back and we still see each other a few times a month. It may be a generational thing. We were in the "Vietnam" generation. We've seen a lot of history. I was a flower child, he was a died in the wool, army sergeant. Once again . . . opposite ends of the spectrum with totally different outlooks. Funny. I've never met his wife. I think she must be like him or else she's a saint. He's lots of fun for occasionally, but I'd commit murder if I had to listen to him every day. LOL!
I'm really feeling awful, so I think I am going to go try to sleep for awhile. How on earth can I go, open eyed, and do this to myself. The taste only lasts for a few minutes. The results last for days! I'm totally daft!!!

Hi Johanne, I truly hope your Applebees meal doesn't affect you too badly. Somehow I didn't remember that you were gluten intolerant. I am too, but with different reactions. It is SO hard to eat out, so don't beat yourself up, especially being subected to Ed's opinions. What elese COULD you do??? LOL. What kind of friends does your daughter have? How crazy is that story?

That is a really mean joke....I'm glad she found out before she got more upset. If you have any allergies or intolorances eating out is like playing russian roulette, hope you feel better soon. Most of my friends, since I live in the most conservative place in Canada, are all really right wing, I'm really left wing. Makes for some very interesting discussions.

Heather, I'm a full blown celiac. Gluten causes everything from internal discomfort to head ache, rashes, worse anemia, etc. I don't go off the wagon often, but when I do, OUCH! Yes, Ed's opinions are very "anti-Obama" at the moment and there's no swaying him, but I can't say much. You can't sway me either in my pro-Obama opinions. LOL! We have a lot of fun as long as we stay away from politics and talk music, books and movies. As for eating incorrectly, I can eat at most any chain, in this case Applebee's, with total safety. I just "chose" not to today and am now paying the price. Most major chains actually have a "gluten free" menu if you ask for it. It was the "Maple Butter Blondie" that got me. LOL. As for my daughter's friends, she has a fairly normal IQ, around 98%, however, she functions socially at about 8 years old. She has MANY people around her who take advantage of her and can be pretty cruel. I hate it, but she's 25 and I can't do much but sit and watch. At least I kept her on birth control as long as I legally could, so she didn't have her first child until she was 20. Since her damage was caused by her birth mother's drug and alcohol abuse and my daughter doesn't "use", my daughter's three children are beautiful, healthy, normal babies. (Have I ever mentioned that my daughter looks like Sandra Bullock? She's half Cherokee and quite beautiful.) As for her friends, she has never really had any. She can't really connect and once they realize how different she is, they turn abusive and eventually disappear. She finds all of my friends and acquaintances (mostly SCA associates) boring. And yes, it's a crazy story and had us pretty stirred up this morning. Having my youngest daughter is sort of like living in a soap opera.

FOL, it WAS mean and I wish there were some way I could buffer her from people like that. I've gotten pretty good at eating out and normally, I don't do anything so stupid. I knew exactly what I was doing and did it anyway. I'm pretty far to the left too. When the Supreme Court ruled on "Obama Care" last week and so many idiots were yelling that they were going to move to Canada, I couldn't stop laughing. I think we are one of the only industrialized nations that doesn't have some kind of health safety net. And, you're right, it does make for some interesting and, sometimes, raucous discussions. I love Ed, but his politics suck. I always tell him I'm just going to cancel his vote out. LOL!

WOW what a mean thing to do to a friend..Aww bless your heart..I know what you mean about eating the wrong thinds then paying the price later..I love veggies and some of them really tear me up..but once in a while I just have to have some..Hope your feeling better soon honey..
