FitMamaBridgette's Journal, 17 March 2018

Alright, I am getting frustrated. I've been working out for a week and I have gained 6 lbs back. I have a significant calorie defecit. Depending on whether I am working or not it's between 500-1400/day defecit on a strict keto diet. What the hell is going on? 😡 I understand the muscle gain thing, but it shouldn't be THAT much.
214.0 lb Lost so far: 6.0 lb.    Still to go: 46.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Really, I highly doubt it’s body fat so don’t worry. It’s most likely water retention, poop, undigested food, and possibly some muscle as well. 6lbs for a week is very common for all those factors to be related. don’t stress about it and move forward, stress will just make things more problematic

U r on a 500-1400 caloric deficit?

I suggest u stick with a 500 calorie deficit, try to not stress out about the scale n aim for a “im feeling good” result for around 2 weeks...then get on the scale n see what happens

Are u correctly measuring ur food? Are u counting every single calorie? Also weights are what really help with fat lose

I'm quite large, and on average burn 3500 calories/day during the work week. My weekends are spent relaxing with my daughter so it drops to about 2500 on the weekends, even though I try to do some extra MIIT sets. I eat between 1600-1850 calories in a day. I'm feeling a little defeated but I watch everything really closely and I think I'm doing everything right so I'm going to keep on it. 2 of my regulars asked me if I had lost weight this week so the scale isn't showing it, but my body is apparently.

I measure everything, I even bought extra measuring cups 😂 But I feel like I have plenty of energy so I don't feel the need to up it. I do go over on protein by up to 20g sometimes.

Ok than there u go, there is no reason to get frustrated 😉

Weight is a funny thing. I know that from last night to this morning I dropped four lbs. So, I'd wait for the longer-term trend. Also, weight is just one measurement. You might try a tape measure for another data point.

Thank you folks. Just having a hard time because the weight dropped so fast without working out. I won't stop doing that because I really want to be strong, it's just frustrating to start I guess.

If you’re not using a digital measuring scale for your food, you should start. Measuring cups can be inaccurate and many times you can easily go over your calories depending on what food is your wing or rather measuring and sometimes that can even take you out of the deficit depending on what you’re eating as those calories from the measuring cups that are not accounted for start adding up. So that also maybe why your weight went up is because the extra calories that were not accounted for possibly lead to either a higher carb intake than usual or whatever .

I did look at them, but my daughter was throwing a temper tantrum so I didn't have the time to make sure I was getting what I wanted. I definitely would like to have one, thanks for mentioning that!

Maybe you need to take a break and let your body know that you're not going to starve it. I had the experience last year (pre-keto) of eating more and dropping weight and body fat. Your body is perhaps trying to store reserves.

I've found that scales are the boon/bust of dieting. When they reflect what I think they should, I'm on top of the world. When they don't reflect what I think they should, I get really negatively emotionally charged, even when I do my best to cognitively think more logically (i.e. it's water weight/retention not "real" weight, I try to focus on long term goals/gains vs short term scale readings, etc.). In those negatively charged periods I try to focus more on how clothes are fitting better, how I look in the mirror, etc. But at some almost untouchable level, I'm still angry/negatively charged. All I can say, from what I've found, is that if the calories are down and the macronutrients are in a good balance (i.e. not a lot of junk carbs and a good amount of protein), the real weight (fat) WILL come off, even with minimum exercise. I've lost 37 pounds since Nov 27th 2017, basically just cutting out ice cream and cookies and crackers and bolstering up protein and veggies and healthy fat. My A1C is down, and so is my cholesterol. The key is consistency, which is hard for me, but there's just no getting around it. Finding 3 meals a day, day in and day out, that provide proper nutrition and balance is a chore, but it's the only long term solution. Just my 2 cents.

Stay the course, you might have many other factors contributing. You are interested in long term results

There are some people who are so ignorant as to how the body works. It's really sad.

@MichaelBrown89: Huh? Do enlighten us.

Yes, MichaelBrown89, please enlighten us. What's sad is your lack of manners.
