I have had a crazy, stressful weekend. On a hike Saturday morning, my dog was bitten by a rattlesnake. Sweet puppy was able to walk back down the mountain and we got to the emergency vet, where they were able to fix him up, but not before his head swelled to the size of a mastiff. He was back home in a few hours, but he is still not fully back to himself. I am happy he is on the mend.

Throughout this roller coaster ride (and with the added background stress of my son being out of town on his school band trip this weekend), I managed to keep my eating somewhat on track. Perhaps this was helped by the fact that I found that all of my cute summer clothes that fit so nicely last summer are now uncomfortably snug. I am acutely aware that I have to do something about this situation.

So, I planned meals for the week. I have made the grocery list. I will log my food. I will exercise. I just need to buckle down and do it, not for one day or two, but each and everyday.

Izzypup68 - what a horrible thing to deal with!! I used to live in rattlesnake country and know how terrifying it can be. Hope your sweet dog gets better by the hour.

Sometimes the smallest missteps can be disastrous. A friend recently broke her nose when she stepped off the lip of the sidewalk, falling flat on her face. Glen, I hope she is okay. I will keep a good thought for you both.

How did you catch the snake bite? My friend's rotti was bit, but no one noticed until too late because it was through the fur. They just thought it was a touch of doggy flu or something. So their 110 lb. Dog died 2 days later.

Luckily, I saw the snake right after the bite happened. (I suppose if my luck was in, I would have seen the snake right BEFORE the bite happened... :) ) I checked out Bosco, but he didn't react like anything was painful. I thought perhaps we had gotten off with a scare, that he had yipped because he was startled. We continued down the trail, but only for a few moments before I noticed how slow he was. Since that was not normal, we turned around and headed back down the mountain. If I hadn't seen the snake and he had just been slow, I might have put it down to the heat, but then he started swelling up and kept swelling up, so it was obvious within the first 30 minutes that something was dreadfully wrong.
