FloridaAngel's Journal, 12 January 2017

I need some advice. My mom asked me not to lose anymore weight but I feel like I need to lose another 6 lbs. I've never and don't have an eating disorder so I would love to be able to eat my daily calorie allotment.
I'm 55 yrs young, 5'7, about 144, was 201 lbs 11/22/15 so yea, I look thin compared to then. I just want to fit a size 10 and I almost do but very tight. I did it losing a lb a week, now I am losing about a lb a month. Such a great problem to have! I used to look at people with under 20 lbs to lose and think "Gee, why are they here?" My bad but proof Fatsecret is a great tool and works if you put in the effort!
To me, its because I was obese that I look like I'm getting too thin to her, I was a thin child. A penny for your thoughts? (I'm on a budget lol)

I told the trainer I wanted to lose 9 lbs. He told me to not get fixated on a number....That being said, I think you should go with how you FEEL. Take it 1 lb at a time and see how it goes. Maybe it won't be 6 lbs to fit that size 10. My problem is size 6 on bottom, size 8 waist...my weight never comes off where I want...

PS I think you look GREAT!

If you are aiming for a size ten, or even 138-ish pounds, neither sounds like a "disorder" to me. You look great and if having the goal keeps you motivated to eat better (whichever diet it is) and you obviously are doing that, then keep it up. Like Rckc said, sizes might vary by part of the body, so be smart about it. Do be careful about obsessing over it though. One thing you can use to check that is how you respond to being told to stop losing weight. If you are willing to stop here, then it probably doesn't control you. If you are obsessing about it and get upset by people telling you to stop, then do what you are doing and get some outside feedback to make sure it isn't becoming a disorder. They don't call them "blindspots" for nothing. I'd say continue on and enjoy yourself. :-)

Honestly, if I were you, I would look for another brand of pants because the sizes are not all made equally! And then just eat right and exercise and not worry about the 6 pounds - they will come off if they are supposed to, and you might be more muscle than you think. Have you found a way to measure bodyfat percentage? My trainer says the same thing: right now I am working on eating right and building muscle - fat will go and muscle will build and the body mass will straighten itself out without a number.

when I was younger I was a size 4 and weighed 128 which for my height is spot on.. My mom used to give me a hard time telling me I was too skinny.. even getting her friends involved. My daughter is perfect height and weight and she gets it also.. I had to go as far as to talk to the school because teachers were skinny shamming her during lunch forcing her to eat more or disobey them... Her doctor told me that over all our society is over weight and when a person is perfect height and weight they appear too skinny compared to the average..

You look fantastic! Still, if size 10 (I'm assuming US therefore UK 14) is a wee bit tight, lose until it isn't and don't look at the number. It isn't emaciated by any stretch of the imagination for 5'7". PMJeff is right though - is it the suggestion you're losing too much that's bothering you? Still, we don't know you and your family at all if we're honest - maybe your mother always tries to control bits of your life, it happens. I'd still say focussing on the number at this stage of the game is wrong. You need to be fit and healthy, not a weight. If fit and healthy means a size 10, then do it and maybe give your mother a little white lie 🤔 How many times have you done that in the past for safe things she's worried about?

We are close to the same in height, weight and age. I haven't been able to lose weight for the last year or two. I'm 5"7 and 140 pounds, 52 years old. I keep trying different things. I squish my body into a size 6 and should probably be wearing an 8, but I'm refusing. I think abbadabba has it right you might need to look at different brands of pants. Really it comes down to how you feel.

so true rguarino and phooka. It's so relative when many people are overweight to some extent and right? a size 10? Models wear a 3,2,1 or 0. A 10 seems healthy to me and isn't it better to be a little underweight then over?

I am experiencing the same resistance from my wife. I am carrying on. I know my own body, as you do yours. You are looking brilliant. And not too skinny.

You were losing far more than 1# per week if you were 201 on 11/21/16...did you mean 11/22/15? Your ideal body weight (not a great measure IMO) is 135-148#, so losing 6# keeps you in that range...go for it.

oops! i'll fix that...duh..great catch!

You look amazing and there is only one person that knows your body and what feels right. All to often we go by appearance not how we feel, if you think you would feel great with another 6 pounds, then go for it. Your body, your choice.

You sure don't look 55! I think you look amazing. You go with how you feel and if you think a few more lbs is what you want to lose go for it. I have 22 more I want to lose and have recently been told by several not to lose any more. But only we know how we feel and what works for us. Good luck😊

I should have listened to my mom when she told me not to "listen to such loud music"... yes, my hearing is impaired. "Please don't get that motorcycle". I finally realized too many of my friends had died or were severely injured, that the risk wasn't worth it. However, when I told her I lost 20 pounds recently, she was shocked. "Where did you find 20 pounds to lose. Please don't lose any more"... Moms don't know everything. Most things, sure, but pretty much NOTHING about weight. FLangel, you are doing everything right and you look fantastic. Only stop when you are content and happy.
