This is my third day dieting. I have a hard time because i am an insomniac and I have to eat when i get up in the middle of the night. I also drink coffee when i can't sleep....I know I know. OXY-MORON. I am an alcoholic so I have an addictive personality. Food...Booze...Cigarettes...I have not drank in three weeks. I really want to get back to a normal weight because I feel terrible and having hip problems.
Going to watch some of the Patriot's game and then go to bed.....and try to sleep more than three hours...wish me luck.

Congratulations 9n not drinking for 3 weeks. Have you spoke to a doctor about getting something to help you sleep? I suffer from insomnia too. Then when it catches up with me I sleep about 11 hours for three days and then back to not sleeping. A vicious cycle. Good luck.

Have you had your blood sugar tested to see what happens with it when you have fasted periods? Having blood sugar crash in the middle of the night, and having your body flooded with adrenaline and cortisol to free up more is a very common reason for insomnia. Its also the reason lots of LCHF'ers have problems with sleep. The coffee drinking helps to release more adrenaline and bring blood sugar back up. Nicotine also helps to bring blood sugar back up. Having something to eat and releasing adrenaline with coffee and ciggs is a 1-2-3 punch to bring blood sugar back up. You might be a mild hypoglycemic. You've got a common symptom, and 3 different behaviors going on that all are trying to raise blood sugar.

Good luck with all this. You've made a great start just being here. I'm also wildly sleep dysfunctional and have formed a rotten ambien habit. Are you at a gym or seeing a trainer or coach?
