warrenwinter's Journal, 24 August 2016

Well, it shows what I can do diet wise. I turned down a Klondike Bar at 10:00 pm. I enjoyed television freedom last night, and watched lots of football including a fantastic, Hard Knocks seeing my favorite Rams. Our poor dog Toby, has a heart murmur, which was $800 out the window. Tomorrow is Long Beach, and my friend Kathy needs a new phone, that she had stolen in Mexico. Funny, Kathy and Bob, allow me to stay at their house, and my wife's brother's family won't. And why are we there in Long Beach????? Hello???Have a great Wednesday everyone!

All you needed was a stress free evening of football to dump the weight! Good job. That turtle is crazy big. By the way, what kind of vet charges 800$ to diagnose a murmur? Oh ya, one in CALIFORNIA! I hope Toby will be ok and its not too bad. By the way, i live 4 hours from one of my brothers and his wife and family, guess who has NEVER gotten an invite for Thanksgiving or, hmm anything. Family sometimes (oh WAIT , ALWAYS) TOTALLY sucks. Have fun shopping for phones!

Lizzy, it was a lot of things, like being put under, teeth cleaning, x rays, warts removed, medicine and on and on. They do love us though. lol Yep, I hear you on the invites, with us it all has all to do with my wife's F upped family.

Good work on not eating the ice cream. I'm in AZ and it's $265.00 to do a mature blood panel on a cat and that doesn't include the vet bill. I guess I'm too close to CA ha ha. I'm going to be nosey have u made plans for ur tortoise after your gone? So many people don't and they live a really long time.

So Steven, what would you consider the best ski location you have skied? I have only skied US.

That is easy...non resort, back country cat skiing, Chatter Creek, North of Golden BC, Canada. Some other heli and cat operations are their equal, but non better (in my opinion). For resorts, my favourite resort is wherever the deep, untracked snow is, less crowds the better (as long as terrain is steep & tricky). I have never skied in Europe as we have such great, (less crowded) mountain resorts closer to me here in North America. For terrain, Whistler, Jackson Hole, Revelstoke, Big Sky, Kicking Horse, Fernie, Red Mountain, Sqaw, Lake Louise, etc, etc, etc...lots to choose from...all depends on snow and relative lack of crowds. My "home resorts" are Lake Louise and Sunshine Village due to proximity, terrain and relative lack of crowds.

I am curious. You hear about avalanche deaths. Have you ever worried about that? I would always hear the explosions to break the snowpack in Mammoth Mountain. It is still the best mountain I have skied, and Colorado people would be offended by that. Mammoth by name is just so huge for US skiing. I have done all resorts in Utah, Colorado for the most part. A little Idaho. I haven't skied in ten years or more. I always wanted to ski in Canada, but never made it.

Avalanches are for sure a worry, we are all equipped with shovels, probes, avalanche transceivers, two way radios, training, etc...all guided too. We also ski trees whenever we can, which have their own hazards (tree wells). Don't know the statistics exactly, but guided tours are very safe compared to self guided tours. Even so, there are a few fatalities every year, just like small plane crashes. Also, it almost always makes the news when these things happen as it seems so pointless to die when doing a recreational activity...for sure though it is way more risky for me driving through the mountains when the weather is bad, than the actual skiing.

Interesting, one of my friends is a big time Scientologist. He has met and worked with Tom Cruise, and was very close friends with Sonny Bono. Sonny died hitting a tree skiing. I visited his grave, in Palm Springs, and he is also buried close to Frank Sinatra. It sounds like you have done some amazing skiing. That is so cool!

Oh Addie, Sorry I just saw you post. And YES, I am worried about Oscar, and I have thought about asking some zoos, if they would want him. He is worth something like $1500 on the open market, I have read. He is only 18 years old, and could live over a hundred years. He needs a large amount of veggies each day. I would listen to any offers to take him, but I want to find him a good home.

Addie, I wonder how he would react, if he met another tortoise for the first time since birth?

You know one time, he got out of the yard, and was cruising down the middle of the street, and he caused a big event, as everyone was pulling their cars over to see him. My neighbors knocked on our door, and told us of the big commotion, he was causing. When I got to him all these young girls were clamoring, and trying to pick him up with no success. It was hilarious.

How did you get him back? Food?
