Day 2 of the 5 day New Moon fast in the bag. 49 hours and counting. My boss knows what I'm doing with LCHF, and having done several tries with Atkins, is sympathetic. Today, she brought in breakfast for the crew. Pancakes, syrup, and scrambled eggs with sausage. She made a point of telling me that the eggs were "Atkins friendly". So sweet and considerate!!!!! I felt really bad telling her that I'm in the middle of a fast, but I did let her know that her consideration of me was very much appreciated. And, man......those eggs smelled GOOD! But I stuck to my resolve, and had my MIO electrolyte water instead.
Y'all, the first 2 days of an intentional extended fast are f'ing rugged! Hunger pangs are quelled temporarily by water and mineral water, but you reach a point where your brain wants flavor. Tea and coffee help. And Himalayan pink salt helps with muscle cramps. I carry a small container of it in my purse (AKA EDC for the "preppers" here) and have resorted to licking a quarter tsp of it from my palm for cramps.
Now it's time for me to strap on my head lamp and trek over to my neighbor's house to let their dogs out one more time for the night. It's part of the deal I have with them for the use of their pool. They're away for the weekend, so I take care of the dogs, and have free use of the pool.
There's thunder rolling in the distance, and we might get a little rain here. It's a good night for sleeping.
Good night, buddies. And a sweet Sunday to you.

I think it is hard for folks to be supportive if you don't keep them abreast of your activity. The steps she took was awesome, and it is hard for her to stay on the road if you don't partake in her actions. Not saying you should have deviated from your plans but just posing what is your goal for change....if it is about being in your own bubble or is it about joining the world in health. Don't mean to sound harsh but being in your own world does not offer you opportunity to create non-food goals for relationships and connections. If we only focus on our relationship to foods then we miss the point of living. Take from this what may fit...I may be off base.

Thanks for your insight, JJ. My bubble has been a long time in the making. While I appreciate her efforts on my behalf, I know she's as strong (stubborn) as I am. We have a long history of mutual respect, and if anything I am working to be an example of resolve for her. My only goal for change at this moment is to be the best version of ME that I can. If others want to emulate, I will willingly share and help. If not, it's none of my business. Ultimately, the only person on this Earth I can change is me. And I'm doing that, one experiment at a time. But you know the best part? I'm also allowing everyone around me to make the same decision for themselves.

Good job fasting Kes! Will you be fasting for 3 more days? Hope your Sunday is also sweet.

Kes, you are a source of inspiration for me. Hope you have a good tomorrow.

Thank you Bliss. It's my intention to fast until Wednesday morning, but as with all things, I'm taking it one day at a time. As long as I feel good doing it, I'll continue. If there is any physical sign of distress that I can't alleviate with simple measures, I will re-evaluate. This long a fast is not something one should try without due diligence. One of the reasons I'm posting detailed evaluations of the process and my reactions/solutions, is so that others might get some tools if they choose to try it. I hope your Sunday is sweet as well!

I hope you have some days off work.

Sunday and Monday are my 'weekend', Lady, and I have a fairly light day on Tuesday. What about you?

Glad to hear it. It will be easier for you to break through Day 3 and come into the bliss of 4 & 5 in the comfort of home. I work all 5 days, but this is my second go round, so I know what to expect. Also, I was low carb prior to this fast, so it is going easier. It was honestly harder in those first days of not eating simple carbs after my sugar sandwich/pizza diversions.

It's good to hear your updates. Sending you ladies support!

@Lady, I can only imagine having to go through carb withdrawal while fasting! UGH! I was wondering about the 'altered state of consciousness' that you and others have mentioned on extended fasts. It might be...ahem...interesting doing hair while in an altered state. LOL I was already doing pretty much 23:1 IF before starting this, so dropping that one meal seems like the next logical step.

Thanks, April and Erika!

Kes, from your posts you seem to already be in a state of high energy and with peace at the world, so the transition to that state my not be that noticeable to you as you already exist there :) I'm hoping you will experience an increase in it though, I enjoy it so much I almost hate to eat and end the euphoria.

Aww, thanks, Deb! I am a pretty happy camper, generally. I'm actually feeling a little high this morning, and haven't had any hunger pangs. :D

Good Sunday morning Kes!! You are quite an inspiration to this LCHF soul ;-) So.... I'm fasting with YOU today. I'm an MT and work M-F and every other Sat, which I had off this weekend. I feel like I need to fast today, and I'm thankful that I've read your post. You GO GIRL!!

Good Sunday morning to you, Synda! I'm rather enjoying this fast, now. The best part? No dishes!! LOL I've only had to wash the cats' bowls each day, and my coffee cup. I just hope the veggies I had in the fridge are still good when it's over. A little poor planning on my part. It snuck up on me. :P

*Saying a few words for Kes' poor veggies* I agree with Deb. You are already quite loving and accepting of whatever/whomever crosses your path. My experience was that I loved everybody, even crabby people. I imagine by Tuesday, I will love all delusional people as well, realizing they are just trying to make a place for themselves in this world. I care for mentally ill people at work, I can extend the same care in RL.

It became easy (well, easier) to be accepting when I finally realized the truth of what is now my mantra: "They're doing the best they can, with what they've got, from here they are." Each and ever one of us has history, battles, flaws and strengths that nobody else will understand...ever. And everyone is motivated by the same thing..they want to feel better. If you're depressed, you can't even get a whiff of joy. But if you can move up the emotional scale to resentment, and it IS a move up, then you feel a little better...as long as you don't camp out there for too long. From resentment, you can go up another step to anger, to revenge, to acceptance, to forgiveness. And from there, you can start to see a ray of hope that will lead to joy. But every step of the way, everyone is just doing the best they can with what they've got to work with. Thank you, Lady, for the eulogy for my greens. If they don't survive, I will give them a decent burial in my compost bin. :) And thank you for your kind words for me.
